Get Your Absentee Ballots Now!

Our BOE insists on WA$TING OUR MONEY by holding a second vote* in their effort to get another EXCEL PROJECT approved while the senior citizens are away in Florida for the winter. Don't let them leave you go out in the cold!! Stay warm, stay home ~ wherever that is for winter.

VOTE by ABSENTEE BALLOT
and
BE HEARD!

Call Lynne Armstrong
Greece Central School District's
Board of Education Clerk
at 585-966-2010 today!

Ask her for your ABSENTEE BALLOT for the EXCEL II vote planned on December 6th.

SCATS ~~ Why is this project paying for MORE ASBESTOS ABATEMENT at Apollo MS? We paid for asbestos removal work when we acquired the building, again in the mid- 90's, again in the CIP project under Walts, and yet again under EXCEL I!

* NOTE ~~ Yet, they refuse to hold a second vote when the budget goes down!!

Shouldn't they determine which schools are going to be closed before they tell the community what is going to be done.

Scats; you make a good point about asbestoes. Looks like alot of overkill

The community doesn't vote on the specifics of the project, only on the overall spending. So, no, they don't necessarily need to say which buildings are going to be closed before we vote.

And about asbestos - I think you just don't know a lot about abatement. Most asbestos containing material is just fine where it is. It's not cost-effective to go through and remove it all at once since it's not unsafe until it's disturbed and it's in so many materials.
But, whenever any area that has asbestos will be disturbed through renovations or repairs, it has to be abated.
It makes sense that there will be some kind of abatement almost every time there's a renovation project.
They don't keep removing the same asbestos.
You only remove the asbestos where you need to, when you need to.

To 5:28PM ~~ Re: "And about asbestos - I think you just don't know a lot about abatement."

REALLY!? Let's see, I know that you failed to say that asbestos is fine when left alone until it becomes FRIABLE. Friable is an extremely important descriptor for asbestos that can cause harm. It means it can easily crumble causing small particles to become airborn where they could be blown about, exposing untold numbers to microscopic amounts of asbestos fibers. There is NO acceptable amount of exposure to asbestos.

Yes, how convenient that we will never ever know when all of the asbestos has been removed from any single school ;) Sounds like a good place to hide funds.

To 5:49PM ~~ The community can vote no attempting to nix any portion they don't like. If it's defeated, let the board figure it out.

Anonymous said...

Uh..." it's not unsafe until it's disturbed"

SCATS said...

To 8:07PM ~~ My point was that 5:28PM was attempting to impress us all with their knowledge about a topic where the word friable is basic to the discussion. Yet 5:28PM never used the word ;)

And yet, not germane to the discussion of why there would be asbestos abatement every time there's a renovation project.

In other words, a red herring.

You abate asbestos when it needs to be removed. That's why asbestos abatement is almost always a component of any new renovation project.

Do you know where to get a list of people who have died recently but may still be registered to vote? (Now do not bother wondering why I want such a list)

SCATS said...

To 11:13PM ~~ I completely disagree! It is QUITE germane to the topic. And I find it MOST interesting that it is ONLY Apollo that has this item on the list yet again! I'm sure that Odyssey & West Ridge also have asbestos, being among our older buildings. But repairs to those structures don't interfere with asbestos? Riiiight!!!

To 9:55AM ~~ I do not believe such a list exists. It's my understanding that the Monroe County Board of Elections finally took action to start removing such names from their list about 3-4 yrs. ago. You might try contacting them.

Why is Sue M telling OA parents that they will have sib priority and that the families already at OA with incoming 6th graders ( fall 12) will get applications in December? Something stinks...

Maybe we are not going to work on asbestos in those 2 old buildings because we are dumping them.

SCATS said...

To 3:49PM ~~ One could hope, but we're expected to believe that EVERYTHING is on the table. Of course, 3:33PMs comment appears to show us otherwise.

Why is Apollo the ONLY building with continued asbestos issues? It makes NO sense.

The 3;33 posting led me to ask - Scats, could you or one of your readers please tell us WHAT IS THE "PURPOSE" OF SCHOOLS OF CHOICE???

SCATS said...

To 7PM ~~ I can only tell you that Schools-of-Choice have outlived their intended purpose ... which was to provide a buffer for boundary lines so kids wouldn't be moved from school to school with population changes.

No school identified to close; no vote to spend any of our previously taxed funds. Period!

SOC was a way to try to save Parkland!

When will district residents receive information as to the vote: date/times, voting location, and what we are actually voting for? Are families with children in school receiving information and other residents not?

SCATS said...

To 6:11PM ~~ You mean you really want to know what you're voting on? I think they just expect that anyone still in town will vote "yes."

I did receive a copy of The Connection about a week ago. It tells when the vote is, but doesn't give much in the way of specifics concerning WHAT WE'LL GET if it passes.

You must have missed the mailing and the info on the district website:

http://www.greece.k12.ny.us/files/news/excel%20newsletter%20final%20lo%20res.pdf

Yes I also received that 4 page mailing. It said that if schools are "consolidated" that they would not do work on those and they would use that money for something else. How arrogant they should expect us to vote before they make their decisions. Just "trust them".
It also said that our taxes would go up one dollar for this. Don't believe that. It also said we are using money we were already taxed on to the tune of about 10 million dollars. So if we didn't use that money we should be taxed even less. Some of the money is in reserve funds and they need us to vote to use that. And some 70 percent will be returned form the state which they act like it's free money. That means that our income tax for those of us that pay will be covering that.
They are not being that up front with the real cost.
Since we could not trust they were using the previous money they were allowed to borrow and use, let's hope we don't give them permission to do this. Again they think we are stupid. They think we as a voting community will give permission to spend to people and an organization that has already been shown to not worthy of our trust for at least the last 12 years. They must have been seeing the voting results from November 8th in Greece and the county.

To 2:37AM ~~ Just to be clear, the link posted by 10:45PM was a document that includes a project list. It's not The Connection, which was the only document I received in my mail.

Anonymous said...

To scats, there was another mailing after the "connection". This was just about the vote and the possible projects. If you didn't get it they must have put you off their list.

SCATS said...

To 1:02PM ~~ That's interesting ... I've checked with several others who say they recieved nothing but The Connection as well.

i got the second mailing "Excell 2" within the last couple of days...agree or disagree they are putting the info out there and running three info nights next week.

SCATS said...

To 3:58PM ~~ It sounds like it still might be in the process of getting delivered then. Perhaps different zip codes are getting it on different schedules.

I only got a copy of the Connection, too. I'm in the 14626 part of town. Where are you SCATS?
