CONLON REPUDIATES MAILER, NOT THE PARTY

The D&C reports:

As requested by the Fair Election Practices Committee, Republican Greece town board candidate Andrew Conlon has repudiated a campaign mailer the committee ruled Saturday violated the Fair Campaign Pledge.

At issue was a mailer sent by an outside party — the Monroe County Republican Committee — denouncing Democratic town board candidate Rita Garretson as a “liberal activist.” According to the committee, the mailer featured images of people holding various signs and placards stating phrases such as “we want bigger government” and used a photo of Garretson to suggest she was being supported by the crowd.

The committee ruled on Saturday that the mailing violated the section of the pledge which reads “I will not use or permit the use of any campaign material or advertisement which uses quotations or images taken out of context and to misrepresent the other candidate or other candidate’s position.”

In a letter dated Sunday to FEPC Chairman James Morris, Conlon noted that when signing the pledge, he agreed “to repudiate any individual or group whose activities on my behalf (directly or indirectly) violate the Fair Campaign Pledge.”

Conlon asked that the letter serve as his “formal and public acknowledgement to do so.”

SCATS ~~ Does a letter sent solely to the FEPC Chairman on Sunday afternoon before a Tuesday election fulfill the pledge when he repudiates the mailer and not the individual or group that sent it out? Here's the pledge so you can decide:

I will publicly repudiate any individual or group whose activities on my campaign’s behalf (directly or indirectly) violate this Fair Campaign Pledge.

That's the first thing I noticed, too. He repudiates the MAILER (whatever THAT means), but that's VERY different from repudiating the PARTY that sent it out! Nice try!!

This so called "repudiation" is pretty lame, Andy. But hey, it's about what we expect from someone who gets led around by his party bosses, right? What would you do if you ever had to decide something on your own?

And Rita and her gang of democrats are NOT led around by Dave and Joe Morelle??

This all so silly. No party is better than the other.

Where are the candidates that truly care about the Town of Greece?

To 9:16AM ~~ That's why I refuse to join a party. I vote for the CANDIDATE that I think will serve us best. This time around, that candidate happens to be Rita Garretson :)

But if the ward 3 voters send a Democrat to office, how much will that person be able to get out of the town for the ward residents? After all, it IS about politics and if we want town services don;t we have to play the game as long as the Republicans hold the power? What choice do we have until there is a full slate of other party candidates available? Isn't that the reality we live with?? I think they have us by the short ones.

Unfortunately, the damage is done in the minds of the Sheeple. That sort of mailer is exactly the thing that scares the heck out of them and leads to baseless assumptions about where a candidate stands. They aren't with it enough to understand the repudiation - regardless of how it is done. The machine that Andy is part of has demonstrated why it is so effective ... No time left for Garretson to make any hay with the repudiation.

to 9:16a - you are dead wrong about Democrats being "led" by Morelle. It's because the Dems actually allow candidates to think for themselves that they aren't able to build a machine like the GOP.

to 11:50a - go ahead and keep counting on government to "service" you. Governments will be broke at all levels soon, and then you won't have a clue about how to take care of YOURSELF! You also need to get a clue and understand that those in power "serve" their cronies before ever thinking of serving you!

Today marks the end of Joe Morelle's career.

Say it ain't so....

To 12:36, I was thinking about road improvements that we have been waiting over 30 years for and now we have them fixed. My question was really, would we get the improvement without a republican from our ward? Call it blackmail, but others call it politics. Didn't mean to suggest that the town of Greece would take care of us financially. After all, that's what Obama is for. :)
