O'Rourke's Last Act ...

"Elimination Of Sibling Rule"
Removed From
School Choice Proposal

According to Julia VanOrman (the new Greece BOE Prez.), Interim Supt. John O'Rourke's last act on his School Choice Proposal was to remove the idea to "eliminate the sibling rule" from the other resolutions in the proposal.

Board member questions about the School Choice plan are to be forwarded to Babs so that the BOE can discuss the plan at the August BOE meeting.

OTHER BOE MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

Julia VanOrman ~ BOE Pres.
Dave Ferington ~ BOE VP

Meeting openings will now have the Pledge to the Flag and the Moment of Silence after the Executive Sessions end and at the start of the Business Meeting.

SCATS ~~ How neat and tidy it is to have O'Rourke gone and no explanation provided for this SUDDEN and SIGNIFICANT CHANGE to the School Choice Proposal. Closed, clubby & corrupt continues!

hope they get sued- wish they could personally get sued! SOC: where taxes, both local and state are used to bus affluent white kids to "select" schools... NYS should step in!!!!!! Does no one else see this as wrong? This is a moral issue for me- badly needed resources are being diverted to "help" affluent white kids while the rest are left with less!!!! Close them down!!!!

wow. I can't believe that I had the scoop on SCATS for once. That part of the resolution was actually removed from the resolution on the Friday before the June 14th meeting by O'Rourke. You were not told as the resolution was never submitted on the 14th. It was tabled without action. Heard this from one member of the Superintendents staff in the cafe during that meeting. It was announced openly so I thought everyone knew. Good news that McCabe did not win Prez. Stops his career plan to the Lt. Gov's cold. Robert Bertoni from No. Greece

Hey, I thought Mrs. Mitchell retired.

To 10:14PM ~~ The resolution was NOT tabled. It was removed from the agenda, the equivalent of it disappearing into thin air. If you heard it from the supt's staff, congrats. You are part of the "clubby" group now. When were they planning to tell the rest of us? They waited until tonight, no announcement to media, nothing on their website, they just wanted the SOC people off their backs.

To 10:43PM ~~ I'm not finding her retirement listed in recent BOE minutes. I know she was actively seeking employment elsewhere.

10:14: Why do you think this wasn't announced to the greater community? Sounds like the board members wanted it this way. They don't let the supt do what he wants unless they agree with it. Ask Achramovitch, he knows.

No, not clubby. Just happened to randomly sit at the table where that person was and they brought it up in small talk. I had no idea who they were initially. There were at least 5 others at the table who heard. Robert Bertoni from North Greece.

To Robert ~~ First you say it was "announced openly" and now you say about 5 other people at your table heard the news. Why didn't YOU bring it up here previously?

The sibling rule;

O'Rourke making 'this' one of his last items makes absolutly no sence.

It was O'Rourke who wanted it 'in' just last month over the objection of some board members.

I believe this statement is pure garbage.

To Charlie Hubbard ~~ I'm inclined to NOT believe it either. As I said, very neat & tidy that this announcement is made AFTER he's gone. He doesn't get to address it ... we have to take Julia's word on it. I have a tough time doing that knowing she can't be trusted ...

I'm with Mr. Hubbard on this one. When pigs fly I'll believe O'Rourke pulled this from his plan.

(An interesting aside, my word verification is coniven .... a new word to describe our boe?)

You know one thing I really hate about this board is the need to wordsmith and micro edit each and every post I make. Ease up all. Stop focusing on the meaning behind each and every word in my post and focus instead on the point I am trying to make. You all complain when the BOE parses words then you do it to us who are just trying to post some data. If I am out of line with this statement, just reply so and this, I promise you, will be my last post here.

That said, yes I said "openly" in my first post as it was freely discussed at the table I happened to be sitting at. It was brought up by one of the Supt. staff who was also randomly at my table and said " Did you know that sibling priority was removed last Friday by O'Rourke?". The staff member did not say why and I did not ask. It was also the buzz around the room afterwards. I did not post it as I honestly thought it was common knowledge.

Scoop on scats? That doesn't sound tidy. And who is this rescuer that purports to know by eavesdropping that some item was removed from a list of recommendations? And who cares? The sibling rule is unfair and probably illegal because it is discrimination. But they know they can keep doing it until someone threatens to sue. And no group will help the parent that sues...not the teachers union or any other liberal group like ACLU. And any parents will be afraid to sue. Or if they threaten legal action their kid will be a lottery winner. Nice?

To Robert ~~ If you can't stand behind your own words, who can?

Doesn't surprise me at all! My daughter just graduated from Olympia. She received an outstanding education from outstanding teachers! Based on where we live in Greece; Apollo and Olympia are the schools we were zoned to send her to! We didn't try to send her to another school! She lost alot of her friends from elementary school because many parents of those kids were fearful of their children going through the MOST DIVERSE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT!!!! Guess what folks THE WORLD IS DIVERSE! Are you planning on sending your kids to an all white college!!!!! I am tired of seeing 3 other buses besides Apollo and Olympia picking these priviledged kids up so they can go to schools that based on where they live they are not supposed to go to! This whole thing breaks apart bonds kids make and divides neighbors in neighborhoods. If you want to send your kid to a school in this district other than the one he or she is zoned for, we as Greece taxpayers have a solution: We feel you should pay more in school taxes to justify the cost of the fuel needed to transport your child there! How do you feel about that? Grow up! The world is DIVERSE!!!!!

To 8:41PM ~~ I'm glad you're so delighted with your kid's education coming out of the worst performing high school in all of Monroe County. Making NO changes will ensure that status quo remains.
