Sr. Class Speaker Advises Students: "Fundraise"

Q. - What advice would you give to future seniors?

A. - Fundraise. Fundraise. Fundraise. Or else you will be forced to buy a senior ball ticket for $60 per person.

Athena HS Class Speaker Valerie Woedy (Greece Post 6/23/11 pg. 9A)

SCATS ~~ After 13 years in Greece Central, this is the most important piece of advice one of our district's "top students" has to pass along to those who follow after ?!  I guess that sums up our sad state of affairs rather nicely!

Even if she was speaking in jest, it is so sad because it is true. Greece and the other public suburban schools plan their activities and programs around how much the PTA and then the classes and boosters clubs can raise funds. Either the taxpayers should provide the funds for the equipment and the programs (so it is equal at each school) or the program does not happen because the community is not willing to fund it because it is not priority.
There should not be children and teens running from door to door or family gathering to beg for money (panhandle legally?)
"Please buy this un-popped corn in a special tin that you could buy at Walmart for $3 from me for $12 so I can have the $9 for my trip. Then my parents don't have to give me the money and you can just make the money yourself at work and give it to me. I don't have to mow a lawn or do odd jobs for money because the community will pay me 20 times the price for this wrapping paper because I am cute."
fundraise, fundraise, fundraise..... It isn't even a real word!
I bet a real valedictorian that was number one in the class would have chosen a better piece of advice like "study".

This was more then likely the senior class president. Yes stop her and everything else that is done in the school. Be critical of everything that is done. Someone does 99 things right lets focus on the one thing done wrong. What a shame.

To 4:10PM ~~ Please read the timely and on-point remarks made by 3:41PM so you can see both the forest AND the trees.

To 3:41PM ~~ Very well stated! It shows what Greece Central values most, doesn't it? I've said as much for years. Obviously, our brightest got the message ;)

An interesting aside, yesterday on the national news an advocate supporting the bill to allow gay marriage in NYS was flanked by two people holding signs that read" NYSUT Supports you". No agenda in public ed? You poor people that let these frauds masquerading as educators influence your children are in for a big surprise. I feel sorry for you and more so for your children. Yeah they have you worrying about fundraising to mask what is really going on.

To 5:12PM ~~ In Greece, we've already suffered ... Walts had his little run-in with the law over his infamous rendezvous in the park. A former BOE member was ridiculed for questioning the expense of stipends to support GLBT groups in the schools. Some of Monroe County's most infamous gay couples/politicians work (or worked) in Greece schools.

I thought the NYSUT was about teacher benefits, pay and, working conditions. Why are they injecting themselves into a debate on social mores. Stick to the three R's or get out of the business.

To 4:12PM ~~ They are all about a liberal agenda.
