Bud Phillips, Fire Commissioners Talk About Holiday Inn Fire

Fire Chief Phillips is speaking exclusively with I-Team 10. He says there's no one out there who would like to see a conclusion reached in the 1978 Holiday Inn fire investigation more than him. “In my 40 years, it was the worst part of my career. It was the worst event of our career and I really don't need it coming up every now and then."

I-Team 10 caught up with the chief of the Ridge Road Fire District Thursday night at the district commissioners meeting. In our exclusive interview, Phillips tells I-Team 10 he fully intends to share with police investigators everything he remembers about the case. "As the fire chief of the Ridge Road Fire District, I'm supportive of opening the investigation again. It's been opened a couple times. I support them looking at it again, and as I did in 1978, I, as well as the department, will fully cooperate with them ..." (read rest on website)

“The commissioners are not privileged to the details of the police investigation, thus it is not appropriate for the commissioners to speak further about Chief Phillips or anyone of our firefighters and emergency personnel during this investigation." ~~ Greece Ridge Fire Commissioners

Questions starrt getting asked in February and fire chief takes medical leave the 1st week of March.
April 15, 2011 scats reports the Holiday Inn fire case re-opened by the task force headed by police chief Baxter.
Tuesday April 12 there is a roaring brush fire that takes our attention on Long Pond for over 100 acres.
When things get too hot to handle things explode?
Maybe the investigators should probe more recent events.
Ada Ridge housing had a "problem in a heat unit". What does that mean. Never explained.

With deep respect to the lives lost and the need for final justice in this case, I would like to offer a change in this thread.

Yet another ex-Greece person is showing leadership elsewhere. It is truly interesting to see how many of the people who were forced out (or bailed out) have become highly successful and valued members of other districts and organizations rather than practicing their talents here.

I think about people like K. Graham, T. Maines, B. Vargas and now today, I read...

I wonder if Greece Leadership was taught by the Buffalo Bills drafting and player development people.

To 8:47PM ~~ Some people have dark clouds that hang over them, others are followed by fireballs ... what can I say?

So Sean Mccabe works at the "ridge rd " fire district acc to this am's paper. But this is the greece ridge fire district. Are they the same? Does he work with this bud?

SCATS said...

To 10:31AM ~~ The Greece Ridge FD is on Long Pond Rd (second facility is on Ridgeway Ave). It is the one mentioned in the paper. Bud is his boss there.

So the fire the police and the town and the schools schools in greece are in serious denial about their problems. The only light guiding us towards recovery is the new chief who says he has no connections and is willing to fight crime no matter who gets caught. Yough job even for capt america.

SCATS said...

To 10:58AM ~~ Yup. And after about 4 months on the job, even Capt. America showed signs he was caving into the political pressures.

Greece Ridge Fire Dept. and Ridge Road Fire District are the same. The "Greece Ridge" name refers to the old volunteer arm of the organization (which now is all but gone).
The Ridge Road Fire District is the political subdivsion governed by a board of commissioners. They levy taxes, hire employees, buy the equipment, etc....
There are three stations: 1299 Long Pond, 2300 Ridgeway Ave, 200 Stone Ridge Drive.
The fire district employs approx. 60 professional fire fighters and reponds to 7500+ calls per year.

To 7:07AM ~~ When they claim they "repond to 7500+ calls per year" it's a bit of an exaggeration. They "respond" to many calls where the fire dept. isn't wanted/needed/called for. It's a routine and I suspect it makes it worthwhile for them to increase their budgets, manpower & overheard in proportion to the total number of "responses" they make.
