Greece Athletes Disrespectful @Hockey Game

From My Email:

"I was at the Storm hockey game a few nights ago (Thunder vs Lightning). So mostly Greece students and people present. Very little if any respect shown for the flag shown during the National Anthem. Talking and screwing around, hats on, adults talking not paying attention not facing the flag. What ever happened to standing at attention and the hand over the heart like the old days."

SCATS ~~ It sounds like our athletes are doing more to give Greece a black eye these days than just about any other persons/incidents based upon reports I keep receiving. WHERE ARE THE COACHES?

This comment has nothing to do with the Athletes. It was about the spectators. Still a black eye for Greece though.

To 12:39 ~~ I disagree. At the time the National Anthem is played, the athletes ARE spectators.

If the team was saluting and quite it is wrongt o lump them in!

disrespecting the national anthem? how about the bench clearing brawl on the ice after the game had ended?

To 1:45PM ~~ Tell us more, please.

after the game, rather then shaking hands, both teams (all their players) fought on the ice. the coaches and referees tried to contain it but when you've 50 young men going at it on the a hockey rink its a little tough.

and i don't know if the original emailer was at the game, how they missed this at the end of the game unless they left early, especially since it takes awhile to get out of the stands when the game is over.

There also was fighting going on in the lobby area during the intermission. Way to wreck a good time

Athletes were all at attention. Spectators were not.

To 7:42PM ~~ Based on the other comments posted here about fighting etc. it's clear this group of players & their fans are far from model citizens ;) Nice try though.

I am the original emailer. I was not at the game. I was just commenting on the original post that did not mention the athletes.

No surprise that anything else happened!!

I do know most of the boys on both teams and the coaches. No suprise that any of this happened.

Your original email says that you were "at the Storm hockey game a few nights ago." But now you say that you weren't. So when you emailed were you just assuming the fans didn't stand at attention?

It's hockey. It's a competitive sport. It's been like this since, well, forever. If you think this is bad, go to Texas or Ohio where high school sports are the only thing around and people live and die by them. Go to a chess match if you have a problem.

To 9:40AM ~~ I think that 10:18PM misstated saying "email" when they meant a comment posted earlier yesterday on this thread.

To 10:26PM ~~ Those are excuses for not dealing with the problems. We have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for fighting in this district. If those teams cleared the benches to fight, they should ALL be suspended.

I can guarantee if there was a legitimate bench clearing brawl there would have been suspensions. The repurcussions for that at the NHL and College levels are pretty strong (Immediate Suspensions), let alone the high school level. If something like that happened, it would have assuredly been news coverage and sanctions right away.

To 10:58AM ~~ Get serious. In Greece, there is NO consistency in applying policy, rules, laws or anything else. We already know it was OK for the coaches to drink on the job, despite a Zero Tolerance Policy, etc.

Just more of the same. The rules are for everyone else but not for athletes. High school, college, pro it's all the same. Because you can shoot a puck or slam a basketball of catch a football bad behavior is given a pass. As for respecting the flag, other peoples sons and daughters have died face down in the mud and continue to do so defending that same flag. Disrespect for the National Anthem and the Flag is disrespect to their memory and sacrifice.

It doesn't even have to do with Greece, the suspensions would come from the governing body for Section V athletics. The players would literally not be allowed to dress the next game if there was a legitimate bench clearing brawl.

To 1:42PM ~~ Please point to to a time where they ever did such a thing, thank you.

If I'm not mistaken, there were players from each team who were suspended

SCATS said...

To 2:34PM ~~ Suspended from what? School? Practice? Play? All of the above?

Anonymous said...

Where are the parents?

suspended from play for 2 games, one kid from Arcadia rec'd a 6 game suspension

SCATS said...

To 11:17AM ~~ It seems to me the suspension should include suspension from school, too. These things are happening during school sponsored activities.

But NOT during school ! Let the punishment fit the crime....

To 5:51AM ~~ Oh puh-leeze!! If you really wanted that, then Webby shoulda been fired for drinking on the clock ;) It's difficult to find any bigger hypocrits (or bullies) than Greece hockey enthusiasts.
