CIGAR SCANDAL ~ DAMELIO RESIGNS AIRPORT POST

YNN Reports: Greater Rochester International Airport Director Dave Damelio has resigned.

Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks made the announcement in a statement just before noon Monday.

Damelio's resignation comes after a New York State authority’s budget office review of the airport authority's spending practices.

Damelio faced scrutiny after the report exposed more than $21,000 spent on cigars, bars, and restaurant catering.

A county spokesman said Damelio used the money for business relations.

Brooks said Damelio was resigning to pursue other professional opportunities.

Brooks has tapped current County Budget Director, Susan Walsh to replace Damelio. She will assume the position immediately.

SCATS ~~ Isn't it absolutely AMAZING (not to mention coincidental) at how these sorts of people are presented with other such wonderful unnamed "career opportunities" just in the nick of time to save them the embarrassment of being accountable to the taxpayers? Where have I heard this before ... Oh I know! Several Greece Town Board members in the past suddenly "resign" when in hot water ... and during GPD's scandals ... yada, yada, yada ...

And in a puff of smoke, Damelio disappears in a scene worthy of a Las Vegas illusionist! But the taxpayer is left with the indelible memory of another Maggie-Minted-Municipal Money-waster. And now the cesspool of Republican politicians will be stirred and a new soon-to-corrupt public servant will float to the top and stink up our county.
Thanks Maggie.

But he's such a good administrator. Under his watch, the airport maintained its highest in the area ticket prices, which must have meant high profits for the airport authority. Watch for his expertise to be tapped for some county or municipality job that pays even more than the old one. We can't let thee good ones get away! Especially when there are so many jobs and so few political hacks (excuse me- public servants, I meant) to take them.

I hear tommy chong is available for a permanent appointment. He might be a big help in promoting international traffic.

To the first poster, 3:58 pm...

Right, and the Dems are so squeaky clean? C'mon. Stop making it about the R or D issue - that way they control the populace. The more they can make you hate one party and love the other, the more they own you.

You have a HUGE pool of corrupt people EVERYWHERE. Are you really all that surprised? You could put in the the most upright, upstanding person at the top, and you STILL have people in power all over the county that have the freedom to be idiots. It's not all the Executive's fault.

So to get promoted or get a better "opportunity", public employees of Monroe County or surrounding towns must have some scandal attached to them.
I like the artwork depicting the "position" that the new person will have to "assume". Of course if she wants to improve her opportunities she too will have to misuse public funds and party on the public dollar.

To Graehaven - yes, politicians are corrupt everywhere, which is why checks and balances would help. Until the voters wake up and call for some balance of party power, we will continue on with the same corrupt "I can get away with this" culture: Greece Assessor, Greece Police, Robutrad, contracts (Navitech) for friends of Maggie, Cigar-gate, what next? It's sad that we have to rely on the D&C to uncover these issues as the community "watch-dog." Until the Dems hold more offices they don't have the strength to do anything. It's no surprise that Andy Moore (re-elected to the Penfield Town Board while under indictment!!) works for the GRIA as an assistant to Damelio!!

Lord, we thank you for there being no Monica involved in the Airport cigar scandal, and sparing our dear Maggie from having to do a press conference splainin what Dave did to Monica with the County Cigar..

Not that I wouldn't have gone $11.99 to see Maggie splain that on Pay per view, but you gotta hand it to Dave for keeping the cigars where they belonged.
