Where Is Greece Ridge Mall Security When They Are Needed?

The mall is totally out of control these days. I was there last week, I am not sure the exact day, it was either Monday or Tuesday between 6:30 and 7 with my mother who is in her late 60's. We were at bed Bath and Beyond and she wanted to go to Marshalls. We didn't even get both our feet in the door when we heard screaming, and swearing followed by us witnessing a fight between a group of minority girls. A group of possibly 6 girls attacked a girl right in the middle of the store. These girls did not care who was around, there were little children as well as elderly shoppers. They knocked racks over and shoved people out of their way. The large group of girls ran out of the store after a few male employees attempted to break it up, and yes they were hit in the crossfire. The girl that was attacked was beaten and cut on her face, however instead of feeling any remorse for her all I was feeling was disgust due to the fact that she immediately got on her cell phone and was swearing like a drunken sailor to whomever she as speaking to on the phone decribing that she was jumped and wanted them to get down to the mall immediately to retaliate, I am not up to speed on my lingo but the employee that was next to me said that she was referencing that she wanted her friends to come down to the mall with a gun to pay them back. At this time no police or security had arrived and after about 10 minutes of her swearing profoundly a woman who I assume was the store manager asked just yelled at her to leave. She ran off, still no police or mall security. My point to all this is that the entire group of girls involved in this were all allowed to leave with no reprecussions. Which lead me to believe that this will just continue at some other location in the mall or parking lot or even a neighborhood. God can only hope that some innocent bystander does not get caught in the crossfire. My mother was shocked and a little scared that teenagers find this sort of behavior acceptable and are allowed to get away with this. groups like this are the reason that people will not shop at the Greece Ridge mall. I know I will not take my childen or parents to this mall ever again. I will drive the extra miles to Marketplace or Eastview. To the employees it seemed like this was not the first time they had witnessed such an event and I am now convinced it will not be the last. So yes I do agree that more police presence needs to be seen at the mall, I was even a little apprehensive walking to my car, and all my mother kept repeating was that she couldn't believe that she jsut saw it, and that it was like something you would see on t.v. not in our own community. Shocked I wasn't but dissappointed I was.  11/21/2010 10:31 PM

SCATS ~~ Maybe Greece Central's use of cops in the schools resulted in a deleterious effect on mall security forces ...?

Yet we wonder with kids like these - teachers are struggling to get them to pass state tests and graduate. Greece is becoming urbanized and quite honestly, if I could afford to move I would.

When it comes to shopping, I'll drive the half hour to go to Eastview - where at least I don't have to deal with that type of element.

You're right "these" people don't go to Eastview or Marketplace. They only go to Greeceridge.

PLEASE

To 6:45AM ~~ I'm pretty sure Marketplace has their issues, too. Eastview is a mecca compared to either Greece or Marketplace. The fact that Greece had to impose a curfew on weekends speaks for itself. The fact that it hasn't really made the mall all that much safer also speaks for itself. Thus the need to beef up security, yet again, for the holidays.

Maybe the stores that have access in and out to the parking lot do not call security when something like this happens. If it happened at one of the stores that only have access for customers to the mall then security would have to have been called. Maybe Bed Bath and Beyond did not want to deal with writing a report or dealing with the police and publicity and that is why it was handled that way. We would never had heard about this except for the writer. Thank you. And Eastview mall is very much better looking and kept up than the Greece mall. But the traffic organization there is horrendous. Marketplace has crime just like our mall.
And wherever you shop don't depend on mall security to get anywhere fast.

To 7:06AM ~~ I'm not following your logic (if any was intended) about stores with two entries not calling security. If anything, they have more to lose in that a car can pull up outside the door with a driver waiting while a helper(s) grabs an armload of goods and runs out to the get-away vehicle.

I for one love the Greece Ridge Mall. I used to have to go to the wilderness to see wild animals in their natural habitat. Now I can do it while getting my Christmas shopping done.

There are different leasing requirements for different size and located stores. If they close 5 minutes early they are fined as part of there lease. (Mall security cameras are not just to keep track of shoppers.)
Maybe the 2 entry stores do not have to inform mall security if there is a problem. Since the ladies left and did not go into the mall inside there was no need for the manager to alert mall management. Or maybe they did and the shopper was not aware. Maybe they have their own security or none and handle it themselves. There may be a fine or extra charge if mall security is called and has to intervene. Is that logical enough for you?
It is not safe at the mall.

The "in and out" stores do not pay a poprtion of the security bill (and other expenses). Maybe that is an issue?

Do not miss SHOE in the D and C comics on Monday. (Except the Senator is miss identifed; he should be called the Greece school board president.)

Welcome to the new "Hood". It is not gonna get any better. After somebody has the misfortune of getting stuffed into the trunk of their own car by these scum, Greece Ridge Center will go the way of the Irondequoit Mall. Most of the stories about Irondequoit were true. The GPD, Genesee Management and Uncle Auggies Chamber of Commerce spin doctors are afraid to tell you the truth. You are better off at Pittsford Plaza or the Eastview Mall. Ontario County Sheriff Povero has his biggest and baddest Deputies Stationed at Eastview all of the time. and when the colors wearin gang bangers are observed on camera and are not there to shop they are ejected and escorted off of the property and told not to come back. Come back and you will be arrested period. You think these weenies have the cojones to do that? No Way

What are saying? There are gangs in Greece? Tell that to the Greece School Board. Is this is a correlation to the decling graduation rate in Greece?

Isn't it odd that the segment of our population that has such a hard time finding jobs and keeping them, seems to have a whole lot of extra time to just hang out at these places? Good to know were flippin the bill!

To 6:35PM ~~ Racist remarks aren't welcome here, not even veiled ones. FYI, I know some people without jobs who are come from many different segments of the population.

Remember Greece Mall Security is run by another GPD reject, no wonder it is a mess.

I wonder if these are the same people involved

Scats, I refuse to argue the point, but for every person you "know" without a job, I'll show you an entire street of people without jobs. Your group may in fact come from different segments of society. The (much larger) group that I'm going to show you comes from one segment. Please don't fall into the same pattern as all other media who claim that simple harsh reality is racism. It is what it is.

To 8:53PM ~~ Thank you for the heads up! Did anyone hear anything about the bus crashed into by a car on Island Cottage Rd. Monday?

You know what's terrible about that Mall place? There's no place to make tinkle. That's why older people don't want to go there, cause when you get to a point in life you get the tinkle pills, and you gotta go a lot more and you can't hold it like when you were younger.

Good gravy, they had all kinds of money to spend on that pond contraption, and well it ain't like there's a lot of customers in the mall place, but well, if you ain't tall enough to go in one of them barrels with the stones glued all over them you can just stand next to that pond and act like one of them fountains over in Italy.

SCATS said...

To 12:55PM ~~ I thought the 'tinkle pills' were supposed to keep you from having to go so much/often (take away the frequent 'urge')... thus the 'dry mouth' side effect!

Negitory there Mr Litterbox Hogger.

You got 2 kinds of the tinkle pill, one that fixes up yer leaky pipes and gives you the dry mouth, and one that gives the wild wizzies and keeps ya from blowing up like that Michelin tire man.

I take the nonblower kind. Now generally I can schedule the pill against where I'm going to be, but that last time I went to the Mall it was an unscheduled emergency run to the Tuxedo shop, you don't even want to get me on that sore subject, and I walk into the dang dark hallway of that Mall place feeling the need so to speak.

Now you'd think that Big Mall Company could afford a wizzer for patrons, and a few dang lightbulbs inthe hall, but all they can afford is that dang pond contraption and a bunch of rock covered barrels. I was looking around for the Mall Security fellow, figured either I'd ask him where da wizzer, and if I couldn't see Mr Security I'd use one of them barrels. Turned out some nice lady sensed my plight and directed me into the clothes store and they got one available.

Then I get in the tuxedo place and well you know about feeling the need, so I duck into the little room in back, tried my dangdest but I couldn't lift the lid in there, so I just fired into the corner. I even glanced around and can you believe they don't even have toilet tissue in the little room? That whole mall leaves a lot to be desired.

I think I just may have to invest in one of them Stadium Buddy things, and well I can leave the hose long and let it dangle ut my trouser cuff. Be real handy if I can save up enough to go to the movie.

To counselor nightowl, There is a public restroom for you and all the ladies too adjacent to the food court, next to the security office a short walk from the tux shop. There is also a public washroom at bon ton and sears and bedbath beyond and penneys. Just for future reference. The restaurants have one maybe just for the patrons.
