Will GTA Approve Their New Contract?

Will the details of the proposed agreement be adopted? Or will the union show us once again that everything they do is for their own wallets? We'll be watching ... ;)

Any word on what's actually in the contract?

To 12:32PM ~~ Actually, that topic has been discussed on here previously. Some items: potential changes in health care benefits and increased wages (no surprises on either of those!) and more release time for GTA leaders.

This blog constantly bringing up the fact of the new contract in such a time of economic recession makes them stall about making the results public. They know if they vote to accept ,the media will be informed. If it were a surprise and they could spin it as a success of the staff satisfaction and administrative wisdom they would have announced it right after the budget vote. This annoying blog's constant nagging about "here it comes" and "we know you have a new contract" is driving them crazy since they will look greedy accepting any raise above the built-in steps they would get from the Triborough Abomination. Keep it up Scats. Maybe they will never sign a new contract. The minute they do, it will be analyzed and scrutinized and pulverized word for word on this blog.
Double dare ya GTA. Do you have the nerve to ask for raises in this economy when more than half of your students are on subsidized or free lunches? For shame.

To 3:15PM ~~ I agree with you on each point except about this BLOG being "annoying." Persistent? Yes! Annoying? No! There's a fine line of distinction betwixt the two :)

You really think someone would be embarrassed about agreeing to a new contact? Why would they look greedy? GTA is not going to be held accountable for something that is GIVEN to them.

A question was asked ..."Do you have the nerve to ask for raises in this economy when more than half of your students are on subsidized or free lunches?"

Answer...Not my problem is it? That is your problem. You are the taxpayer.

Let me ask this question again. Why is it that RCSD is the highest paying district in the area? I am sure they have a higher ratio of students on subsidized lunches. If I am wrong then give me the facts.

When was the last time teachers got a contractual raise? I don't recall them getting a decent contractual raise when the economy was good.

I don't think anyone on this blog would turn down a raise if it came to them, even in these tough times. Has anyone here ever turned down a raise from their employer? I am sure so many people have told their employer that "times are tough, you can keep your raise."

Haven't you heard the news. Our beloved President Obama has just stated that good teachers should be rewarded. Unless you have made a complaint about your child's teacher then they must be good!!!

Respectfully,
An Outsider Looking In

To the genius at 4:37,

Every single teacher in Greece has gotten a raise every single year. Some people call the "step increases" but the general public calls them raises.

For clarification. If you made more this year than you did last year - you got a raise. Try and call it what you want. But a raise is a raise.

For anyone to claim different is ridiculous.

To 4:37PM ~~ Should they be embarrassed? Yes. Will they be? No!!

Bringing RCSD into the discussion is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison since the way they operate is under a different set of rules than suburban districts like Greece.

Re: "When was the last time teachers got a contractual raise?"

Teachers get contractual raises called step increases that keep on coming even after their contract period runs out! Do you know anyone in the private sector that has a similar luxury?

Re: "I don't think anyone on this blog would turn down a raise if it came to them, even in these tough times."

The problem is that so few people have had ANY RAISE in years !! Just retaining a job has been a challenge for many.

I know the real world is VERY difficult for teacher union members, in particular, to understand. GTA gets raises, step increases, continued benefits, etc. without any performance expectations at all and on top of it, they have job security thanks to tenure.

Our teachers are as good as is reflected by the overall performance of the district. Lately, that performance has been in the toilet. And the teachers STILL expect raises.

4:37 It's all about entitlement - right?
To he## with merit - right?

Perhaps the worst part is the kids leave for the 'real' world thinking this is how the 'real' world works and THAT should scare us all.

It's more about the students: Garbage in, garbage out.

Those who can achieve and learn do.

As a Greece Teacher - I voted no to the contract. Not because I want more money - personally I think asking for more in these times is ridiculous - it is just that the Union Negotiators gave the district so much of what they wanted, and the number one concern of teachers (safeguards against harassment and intimidation from administration) was not part of the deal.

We're not all greedy. Many of us would prefer improved working conditions and a little appreciation rather than additional money.

F.Y.I The teachers approved the new contract.

Genius....No I would prefer to be called a Mensa. Thank you.

To 9:29PM ~~ That's the name of a membership organization. Where's your card?

I know we won't be calling you a mentsh ;)

Scats... I have suppported teachers on this blog for many months. I will no longer do that. You are right. Most teachers in this district must be incompetent. For them to vote for this contract is appalling. The district won. The district will now save thousands per teacher. This contract was approved by the young and dumb new teachers in this district. Thank God I don't have a child attending this District. These "teachers" are inept. If they can't look at simple math for the amount of money they just lost over the course of their entire life, THEN how can they teach your children basic life skills. They just got a $500 raise to lose $3500 in medical coverage/year for the rest of their life.

Scats...I will never doubt you again. You were right. Greece residents should have great concerns over their child's future education.

You stated "it is just that the Union Negotiators gave the district so much of what they wanted, and the number one concern of teachers (safeguards against harassment and intimidation from administration) was not part of the deal."

You have no idea what kind of oxymoron this is...One of your bargaining members is going through this very ordeal. You just dont know it yet. It has been kept quiet for over a year by your very same union that represents you!!

Scats....I didn't say I was a "mensa". I just preferred to be called one. Do you get the difference?

Charlie, would have gotten merit pay? Would you have agreed to merit pay? You know that that administrators berate their teachers to get ahead. For example, John Rivers. He was the principle at Athena Middle. He was on a JUUL agreement and did anything he could to get off of it. He sold out teachers in an attempt to get his tenure. Thank God he was fired...ERRRRR....Resigned due to his own misconduct.

To 9:46PM ~~ Thank you. I heard GTA's Prez was out doing the hard sell on this contract. Do you think he told the truth while making his pitch?

To 9:57PM ~~ And yet folks got upset with me for calling the GTA boss a buffoon!

To 9:58PM ~~ Gotta be a member to get your "preferences" addressed ;)

To 10:09PM ~~ This is the Greece Central School District where fired, resigned & retired ALL mean the same thing. Just ask Steve Achramovitch ;)

Scats, Yes he was telling the truth. That is what is so scary about all of this. They can't see the future and what it might hold. I am not saying they are to predict their future. However they should be able to see the future for a worst case scenario.
