$TICKER $HOCK?

How much i$ your
$chool tax bill?

Note ~~ NOT including reductions for STAR or other exemptions, the total annual property tax bill (school+town/county) on the AVERAGE GREECE HOME (assessed at $120,000)
now exceeds $5000 per year!

And this is without Uncle Auggie finding a way to fund Loszynski's recommendations or Chief Todd's wish list.

It is a good idea for all of us to be prepared for the day when the star will be taken away to help the state fill its bankrupt accounts. It will be soon.

To 5:48PM ~~ The STAR program has been a total sham from the gitgo anyways. First of all, those other senior exemptions were supposed to disappear. They didn't. The STAR "reduction" really isn't because NY State foots the difference. Can you guess where THEY get the $$ to fund it??

So if STAR disappears, it will be just one more reason to FLEE NY!

isn't the real problem is that newyorkers are so stupid that they acualy believe STAR saves money?

To 9:10PM ~~ It appears that Greece residents mostly are. I can't speak for the rest.

The $5000 is TOTAL tax bill ,not just school, right?

SCATS said...

To 11:55PM ~~ Yes. That is what I spelled out.

To scats at 11:57 MMMrowww. Hissss. Be patient.

To 12:01AM ~~ I am patient. What was unclear about the $5000 total property figure I wrote about out front?

SCATS

The average tax bill is now $5000 or $100 per WEEK to live in Greece.

My first teaching salary was $4400 a YEAR in 1962. I am really old.

Enjoy

What was unclear? The red headline: "How much i$ your
$chool tax bill?"

Anonymous said...

The Headline is "How much is your school tax bill?"

SCATS said...

To 8:45 & 10:01AM ~~ What about the headline is unclear to you? The headline is a question, one intended to make you THINK.

The BLOG is short & can be read in about a minute or less, by most. Did you NOT read it all?

To Doug ~~ I haven't been a homeowner here nearly as long as you have, but my orig. property tax bill in the days before STAR was less than $1500 per year. The worst part is knowing it will continue to get worse and there is NO RELIEF IN SIGHT!

NY State might very well make itself "extinct" (mass exodus and no one left but the politicians) if it keeps heading down this path.

Soon it will be cheaper to rent in Greece than to own a home!

BLOG Administration rejected one comment for name-calling.

For the record and to the author of the rejected comment, SCATS never called anyone "stupid."

Family Meeting Time-
OK Beckie & Lance, here's the situation.
Mom & Dad just blew a ton of money on your school supplies, but we forgot about the Tax Bill coming in. We need to return a lot of those items you got for school, so go get everything we just bought and we'll be taking it back for a refund.
No new helmets for school collapse this year kids, you just have to squeeze back into the old helmet for another year.

Shirley we shouldn't have voted for that school budget.

I think you're selectiveness with allowing only agreeable comments is getting out of hand SCATS. Just my opinion.

To 1:11PM ~~ Actually, the problem seems to be that certain people who disagree can't seem to intelligently state their thoughts without resorting to name-calling or other behaviors that serve no purpose but to fan flames. My boss used to say that people who resort to name-calling and swearing do so when they become mentally bankrupt. I tend to agree.

You allow name calling all the time here SCATS. However that appears to be only when the person being disparaged is someone you dislike or disagree with. It seems that you're ok with people who are mentally bankrupt when they agree with you or attack those you are against. Poor choice in "friends" imho.

SCATS said...

To 5:15PM ~~ Let me guess ... you just got your hand smacked for name-calling on a different thread today, so you're here to whine? When it comes to "friends" I have none on here. Not you. Not anyone. It keeps the field quite level.

If I can't afford to pay my taxes, what do I get to do? MOVE!

Why should it be different for anyone else? IT SHOULDN'T!

IF YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS, DOWNSIZE UNTIL YOU CAN!

To 7:20PM ~~ That's what I said before the school board increased the senior income ceiling for enhanced STAR which shifted the tax burden of seniors onto the rest of us. I was told that we MUST take care of these poor folks to keep them in their homes, we owe it to them. So now I guess I will say the same thing. If I can't afford it any more, shift the responsibility to folks like you who don't mind. Then I can remain in my house, instead of downsizing into a right-sized lifestyle. It's the Greece way!

7:20 Downsize? Sometimes the cheapest house is the biggest one in the Ames/Childs area. Just bring your guard dogs and gun.

SCATS said...

To 5:21PM ~~ Does that house have ALL its windows intact? If so, let me know & I'll relocate faster than you can say "pit bull." :)
