Congratulations to students at the Village Elementary School led by Library/Media Specialist Deb Lynch who read all summer, entered their minutes on the Scholastic Bookfairs web site,  and placed first on top of a list of schools nationwide in the Summer Scholastic Reading Challenge!  Officials from Scholastic Bookfairs will be arriving in Hilton Thursday, September 23, to formally recognize and congratulate the Village Elementary School for placing #1 in the United States in the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge.  "Our students logged 895,317 minutes on the scholastic website between May 1st and August 31st which were the beginning and ending dates for the challenge," said Village Elementary School Media Specialist.

To 7:11PM ~~ In general, I'm glad for their accomplishment, but it worries me that there may have been a connection to buying Scholastic Books required of participants. If not, then it really is a marvelous achievement. If so, then shame on the school for falling for that sort of commercialization of academic achievement.

I believe Deb Lynch used to work for Greece - but the Waltz Admin made life so miserable she left for greener pastures. Congrats Ms. Lynch! Our loss was Hilton's gain.

To 10:18AM ~~ Ahhh ... I thought that name sounded familiar.

To 10:36AM ~~ I have no idea. As one of the largest school districts in NY State, you would think we would be involved in academically related activities like this across the district, but we aren't ... unless it involves sports or some other extra-curricular.
