Morris Trial Date Moved Up To Monday

The D&C reports: Former Greece teacher Barry P. Morris will go to trial Monday on an indictment charging him with a felony of first-degree criminal sex act and the misdemeanors of second-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Morris, who was a teacher for 33 years and taught fourth grade for 19 years at West Ridge Elementary School, was charged in July 2009 with assaulting the girl, who is a Greece resident but was not a student of Morris.

The school district placed him on administrative leave after his arrest. He retired in February.

SCATS ~~ His name even appears in the pricey 12 pg. GCSD mailing that hit my mailbox yesterday! Isn't it interesting that our BOE chose to spend the money necessary to announce the "retirements" (i.e."firings") of folks like Morris & Achramovitch at the same time they chose NOT to provide adequate funding for classroom and janitorial supplies? I wonder how deeply their heads are buried into the sand to not be able to see what they are doing!

Most organization now offer three options to get updates:
1. Electronic, via e-mail of facebook
2. By mail
3. Not at all

Maybe GCSD should move into the 21st century.

To 8:12AM ~~ If they did that, the 9 on the BOE couldn't "feel good" about their name getting into 35,000 Greece mailboxes ;)

I've heard there is another side to his story. Let's wait out the trial to make judgements.

To 3:55AM ~~ You may be right. However, I don't think it was appropriate for the school district to include the name of an accused sex offender in their congratulatory retirement column mailed to every household in Greece. On top of that, I don't think it was appropriate for this supposedly cash-strapped district to mail out that newsletter at all! It sends the wrong message.

I think we're going to find out that the student-accuser made up the whole thing as a way to "get even" with Mr. Morris. Wait & see!

To 8:34PM ~~ Get even? It says she wasn't his student.

NOT A STUDENT BUT A RELATIVE BY MARRAGE.

As a note to waste, I have a few kids in Greece. I got the school mailings and had half a Wegmans bag of duplicate copies and garbage. 4 code of conducts packets, glossy dress code mailings, letter from the super, and more. Why not send to the oldest child all and any generic student mailings ie duplicates. And only age/classroom specific to all younger,? WHAT A WASTE of MONEY!

To 9:11AM ~~ I suspect the answer is that there are legal reasons for sending for each child. Among them are that those nice glossy calenders serve as fulfilling their "opt out" requirements for people who don't trust the district in how they use their kid's name, photo & certain other personal info.
