Church Flyers Left On Cars On GCSD Property

OFF topic but get this. We had orientation at ATMS and when I cam e out the cars had been plastered with card board flyers ( postcards) from DESTINY PREPARATION CHURCH. The glossy card has a pic of the APAC and the rest of the church's info. I am upset that while at the school a non affiliated organization can come on to the property to flyer they cars.    8/25/2010 9:45 PM

They do use the APAC for church, but I am not in favor of the APAC and the school being on a church mailing as the school has no religious affiliation. It is one thing for the time and address, I feel a full photo of the APAC AND AT with the pastor is not OK.    8/26/2010 11:06 AM

SCATS ~~ Since when did it become OK to advertise like this on Greece School District property?

Ask Gary Pudup at ACLU for an opinion. He is always helpful.

Searching the policy of the district there is no prohibition for a person that has permission to be on school property (such as teachers or students or church rental people) to distribute written material passively to cars. In fact there is only a prohibition to advertising of a commercial nature which we know is not followed by reading any of the programs for the musicals.
People that have run for school board know they cannot actively pass out their flyers on school property but can leave them at the office for anyone to pick up.
It is good to know that if the church has started this practice and there is obviously no policy against it the rest of us can start doing it. The Chamber will be so pleased. And this will provide after school work for many students.

To 11:40AM ~~ As I recall, there was some sort of flap about flyers left on cars in the Olympia parking lot a number of years ago. It sounds discriminatory to say that candidates can't distribute flyers but everyone else can. The idea of promtional/advertising materials of ALL kinds should be addressed within ONE policy. Sadly, we already know the BOE disdains their own rulebook!

Rules are made to be broken.

To Cleo ~~ In GSCD, rules are made to bent at the will of the powers that be.

To Cleo. But there is no rule to be broken. I am printing up flyers tonight. Anyone need their driveway done or plowing in the winter? Early sign-up discount for Greece School employees and parents.
While the destiny worshippers are in their Sunday service we could leave flyers on their cars. Oh the possibilities!
Of course if someone calls it trespassing then we are all done. But if you have a student do it there is no charge of trespass that would hold up in court. Then they would have to say that students are only legally on school property at certain times. Think of the lawyers fees that will be owed as they try to craft this new policy. Oh the possibilities.
Does the destiny parson or acolyte have the right to be on school property at any time since he rents some space? Big LOL. We could hire one of them to do the distribution since they obviously are allowed to do it already. We can't discriminate. We can't let a church do it and not the rest of us. Are the rights of churches to advertise any more legal than the rights of the rest of us that have to pay taxes. I just can't wait for this court case. It's only been 2 weeks since we had the one that wasted our tax dollars defending the town board's right to pray specifically to one named deity. They did not need to even fight that case since they kept right on praying until the decision. They could have let the people against the prayers have their day in court and let the judge decide. But noooooo... they had to fight it tooth and nail. They love to be fighting the devil with someone else's money. How much did that cost us?

GCSD could care less about what the groups do in their buildings, just as long as they get paid.

I sure wish that was all I had to worry about was a flyer on my car. Give me a break.

To 9:22 PM - let me guess, you must be a member of that cult. Uh, I mean church. Typical.

We here at Our Lady of the Burning Bush discussed windshield flyers just today. We are planning to print an initial run of 1250 flyers and employ children attending GCSD to stick them on windshields.

Rest assured ouur flyers will not be blowing around the parking lots, we are having them made on paper with glue so they stick to the windshield. We will even limit the number of flyers any child can lick and glue per afternoon to preclude dehydration.

To 10:47PM ~~ But will it preclude their tongues from getting stuck to the roofs of their mouths?

" But will it preclude their tongues from getting stuck to the roofs of their mouths?"

If it doesn't we'll proclaim they are speaking in tongues.

Wow, so begins again the accusations and hate-filled attacks on religion here.

CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENT-

The Church of Our Lady of the Burning Bush he announces we will begin selling tax free cigaretts in support of our Seneca Nation brothers. We too are a tax free organization and don't agree with NY State taxing the Senecas.

On Sunday while you are in church our members will place a tobacco order foorm on your windshield. If you wist to buy tobacco products fill the form out and send it to our Parsonage. We've hired a former GCSD employee who is experienced at selling tax free cigaretts to handle the distribution as you come to church the following week.

Thanks in advance for your business.
