3 Yrs Post-Approval ... Walmart Is Coming ... Eventually ...

Asbestos removal began already;

Plaza owners in court last week over complaints about the plaza's condition;

Big Lots remains through January.

STORY

SCATS ~~ My prediction is that the 10th ward feel taken on by the Dewey/Stone area will continue spreading northward on Dewey Ave. Within the next 10 yrs. it will become difficult to discern where the city line ends and Greece begins along the declining Dewey corridor.

More bad reporting by D and C. The headline looks like it is dictated by Jodie Perry and Auberger. Not all residents are enthused.

To 10:01AM ~~ I agree. I was especially disappointed that we weren't told more about the court appearance by Widewaters, since the plaza has been a total mess for a number of years. But then, that would take making a phone call ... i.e. work!

As an aside, even the TV media has started to grow lazy. If they can't snag somebody right behind Town Hall or the library for an opinion, we hear nothing from residents reported. Do they honestly thing that anyone on the sidewalk outside of Auberger's palace will say anything negative about Greece, our govt or how things are handled?

At least there is a chance that Northgate will be cleaned up. Let's hope that when Walmart gets there the plaza will be a "nice" place for the residents to go. It would have to be an improvement over what it is now.

SCATS: once Walmart gets done, maybe Town Hall can get the work done on the half finished drugstore at W Ridge and Long Pond. Unless, of course, it will be another on like the unused drug store at Dewey/Stone. I wonder how many unused drugstores in various stages of completion we can get in Greece?

To 10:46AM ~~ A chance? It should be a certainty regardless what Walmart does. Why is the community so reluctant to hold our elected reps accountable?

I've had mixed feelings about the entire Walmart issue. At this point, I think "Be careful what you wish for ... " is where I'm at.

To 10:48AM ~~ Regarding the vacant drugstore @ Dewey/Stone: Is that the location of the new flea market I saw advertised?

The Eckerd Store has been sold!!

No the flea market is across the street in the old volunteers of america store.

To 11:40AM ~~ Sold and "open for business" are two VERY different things.

Thank you, 12:20PM. That sounds like a fitting location ...

Go Walmart! It's about time this thing gets built. How many lawsuits do the anti-development people need to lose before they allow this place get cleaned up? Where's the money for these lawsuits coming from anyway? We're told it's the unions bankrolling these huge costs. Meanwhile union members I know are losing their jobs while the union bosses sit back and do nothing but focus on paying for losing lawsuits like these.

Wide Waters and Uncle Auggie should foot all the bills. They are the ones who let the plaza go to hell, so they could slide their backdoor deal with Walmart through.

Regardless what side people are on now, I have an inkling that 6 mo. or so after Walmart opens that more people will wish for anything but Walmart in that location. Its easy access to all kinds of buses will bring traffic from places most Greece residents avoid. Following the troubles plaguing the Greece Ridge mall in recent years, we know that will bring new "challenges" for the area.
