Greece School Board's "Goals" ...

No wonder we're pulling up the rearend of the train in Monroe County! Here's the goals our BOE had for 2009-10:

1. The Greece Central School District Board of Education will have at least one training with New York State School Boards Association before the end of the 2009 calendar year.

2. The Greece Central School District Board of Education will work to encourage and recruit new community volunteers to serve on committees. The committee chairperson will keep track of the number of new volunteers and will report the number of new volunteers back to the Board at the end of the 2009 – 2010 school year.

3. The Greece Central School District Board of Education will be more diligent with items listed on the Follow Up List of Board business. Success of goal will be measure by the number of items on the list that are completed at the end of the 2009 – 2010 school year.

4. The Greece Central School District Board of Education will take part in a second selfevaluation at the end of the 2009 – 2010 school year and will discuss the results of the evaluation at a Board Retreat.

Adopted September 8, 2010

SCATS ~~ On Tuesday night, our BOE will self-evaluate their performance based upon these measures. Is it just me, or is this truly pathetic?

Wowie! With goals like this, we're well on our way to becoming a 'world class school district' where 'student learning is the goal' but graduation is but a dream.......

SCATS:

This is the first time that I have seen the 2009-2010 BOE "GOALS" I fully agree with you that these "Goals" are "Truly Pathetic"

In fact "Truly Pathetic" is too complementary!! They are so shallow, embarrassing to read and lacking in anything of substance.

It would make no diference to the school district if the BOE failed in every goal. They are meaningless goals.

There is no mention of:
Graduation rates:
Academic test results:
Budget:
Communication with the Community:
Labor contracts:
Student Behavior:
Student Achievement:

I know what the BOE would say to my list; Doug, you don't understand what you have listed are more appropriate for the Supt. of Schools.

I say no, the BOE sets the Goal ie: The graduation rate for Greece Central will increase by 6% over the next three years. That is the goal

The Supt. is then charged to implement the BOE goal for graduation rates. The Supt. may have other goals AFTER all of the BOE are written as his/her goals.

It will be a minium of 10 years, if ever, for Greece Central to return to any kind of academic success.

Thank you SCATS for your posting.

Sincerely

Doug Skeet

While we are on the topic of "Goals" here's Doug's recent letter to the Greece BOE:

June 18th 2010
Dear Greece Board of Education Members:

Included* with this letter is the cover page of the June 2010 Marcus Whitman Central School District Newsletter. Marcus Whitman is a rural, poor, agricultural school district in Ontario County. The article highlights their efforts, with their individual students, in achieving academic “Greatness”.

Please note the following:

District Targets written for three years. Teams of teachers, administrators and supervisors developed prototypes. In Greece, targets, goals are written annually, if at all, by the Superintendent and then rubberstamped by the BOE.

Targets, goals, must be measurable. This is what was done in Greece Central when we were academically ranked in the upper middle third of Monroe County.

Marcus Whitman has a target, a goal, to raise the graduation rate to 93% from 90%. Greece Central is content with the lowest graduation rate in Monroe County, Olympia. Second lowest graduation rate in the county, Arcadia

Four out of six, of their targets, are academic, measurable and written in language easily understood by students, parents, teachers, administrators and by the BOE.

There are NO honorable excuses keeping Greece Central from putting a high priority on academic excellence. The last 10 years of being in last place ranking in graduation rates and NYS testing is a crime against the students. The responsibility for this crime rests squarely with every Board of “Education” member for the last ten years.

Sincerely yours,

Douglas G. Skeet

* For technical reasons, SCATS wasn't provided the cover page mentioned.

3. The Greece Central School District Board of Education will be more diligent with items listed on the Follow Up List of Board business. Success of goal will be measure by the number of items on the list that are completed at the end of the 2009 – 2010 school year.

I don't know about the rest of you but this one seems straight out of the Dilbert comic strip. we will make a list of things and grade ourself on talking about the list

To 4:29PM ~~ PLEASE DO NOTINSULT DILBERT!!

We live in a era where reality outstrips our ability to satirize it.

Thus dilbert seems too rational

This is more of a "to-do" list of activities and chores that are planned, not goals.
They must consider their grocery shopping a goal.

Great point! I like that, not goals but merely a "to-do" list.

We should have a "to-do" with only one item:
1. Get rid of the BOE xxxxxx.

Enjoy

I love how Doug gets a "sorry, Doug" when his post needs to be edited...the rest of us get threatened to be censored if our boorish behavior continues. Your biases aren't showing at all, Scats. (yeah, that's sarcasm).

To 7:06PM ~~ I DID censor Doug's comment, not threaten it. And he got the "sorry, Doug" because we had an email exchange regarding BOE goal's before he posted that comment which gave me a lot of insight into his views. I'm pretty sure you'll get over it anyway ;)

From 7:06 and 8:52 to scats. How does he get to send you email?

To 7:59PM ~~ I'm not exactly sure I understand your question. There are quite a few people who opt to email me about various issues and/or supply me with information, documents, ask questions, answer questions etc. I hope you aren't jealous.
