GPD Shut Down Festival For Youth

13WHAM News reports that several fights broke out in the mall parking lot carnival. No arrests were made.

"There is security here and we have extra patrols here, but we're still outnumbered by several hundred people. You would hope cooler heads would prevail, but unfortunately that didn't happen. There was a situation where there were numerous people involved in several altercations, and we were forced to clear the property." ~~ Captain Patrick Phelan.

SCATS ~~ Why was no one arrested? Do we want to let them return & do it again next year? Between the Sea Breeze situation and this one, I get the distinct impression that the thugs are running things.

It sounds like the fights that were planned at Sea Breeze were relocated to this other temporary amusement park.

I live near the area and I am disappointed that this "youth festival" continues. It is trashy, dirty and brings crime. It is nothing more than a place for the un-ruley to congregate. If you drove by last night and saw the crowd you would agree. The folks sitting on the curb with feet in the road, LONG POND road, waiting for the bus was all I need to see. And then there was the car full of kids with no seat belts on...didn't know an old "OLDS" sedan could fit that many kids in the back, must have been un-comfy with the roof of the car hanging down...lmao.

Get rid of this festival of garbage.

To 9:44AM ~~ You must be a mind-reader! Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking.

To 3:04AM ~~ I saw in several places online that many were commenting about the Sea Breeze rumble came to Greece.

So it is the "festival for youth".
Maybe youth is using the festival for what it wants to do.
The promoters do not specify that it is for nice youth. Ironic.

If only SCATS and her supporters actually worked in a positive way to support this community instead of doing nothing but criticizing and attacking others, maybe they could actually do some good for the people that live here. Hopefully some day that will change.

To 1:02PM ~~ Re: "If only SCATS and her supporters actually worked in a positive way to support this community ... "

I'm always amused by comments that attempt to show the author knows me and/or my supporters. Of course, you do not ;) If you did, maybe you could list the activities I do that "support this community." But alas, you can't! Nice try with the "authenticity" factor ;)

Check the D&C site-the festival is over for this year.

There's a weekend evening curfew for teens in the mall, because of the same problem - large groups of trouble-making teens congregating in the food court or movie theater. It seems silly that someone would erect an amusement park in the parking lot at the same mall and expect a different outcome .....

SCATS said...

To 1:37PM ~~ Yes, I'm aware of that ... thus the use of the words "shut down" in the BLOG title :)

To 1:46PM ~~ That's an excellent point!

Your suggestion that scats "could actually do some good for the people that live here".
Keeping people aware of the safe and unsafe places in our community is doing some good. Keeping people aware of when meetings are being held and promoting citizens involvement through voting is all-American.
Working for free to keep up this forum is indeed good work. No advertisements and no self promotion.
Maybe you could start your own blog , unless you already have.

But of course those responsible can't be called exactly what they are. IIt's been said time and again, if a place can be gotten to by bus, the trouble will find it. What sort of similarities do we see when video is shot of these "situations"? Movie theater violence, the Charlotte Beach violence the other night, the mall (along with all the malls that have closed), almost every violent headline on the nightly news.... What looks the same? And isn't it odd that the demographic that is most dependent on government hand-outs, is also the demographic seen all to often at places where disposible income is needed? But I know, we can't talk about it.

So to sum up;
Komendante Hairburger and the Town collect all the permitting fees.

The carnival operator looses money

The special needs kids scheduled to visit the carnival Thursday loose.

Carnival employees loose.

And this all seems to be because SuperBaxter lacks the balls to have his annointed clean cops do their sworn duty and lock some scumbags up. Gosh, that's not much of a departure from Baxters operational plan in the City.

How long will it be before Greece becomes a complete writeoff like the City already is? Our schools already closely match the City SD performence. Our cops are working hard to match RPD's stellar record.

WHAT NEXT?

To 3:54PM ~~ THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!

To 4:36PM ~~ Regarding the bus issue ... I heard on tonight's news that once the festival was closed down several RTS buses showed up & the crowd rode away.

To 5:27PM ~~ We've already been written off, unless you want to count our new distinction as "Tree City USA." That seems to be the "official" replacement of our former title of "Safest Town" ;)

Is there even a very slim possibility that Selke would ever recognize that Greece has serious problems in every aspect of everyday life and school life in Greece? And is there any chance that he would ask why his buddies in Rotary, Kiwanis, the Chamber and the almighty Republican Party insist on keeping their heads in the sand and ignore what is really wrong here? Without any doubt, the #1 problem in Greece is that the self-annointed do-gooders refuse to recognize that problems exist and to launch efforts to solve them Rather, they pretend, at all costs, to claim that all is great here and that only a handful of nay-sayers are really the problem. They continue to prop up our obscene town government, the political machine comprised of idiots on the school board and insist that Greece is fantastic. Perhaps at the Ridgemont bar it is...(after the inner-circle of empty suits becomes sufficiently lubricated)...but not in the reality of what Greece is today. Greece SUCKS and the main reason is that the "leadership" of the town believes that ignoring problems is far better than dealing with them. The FAT CATS have circled the wagons and the other 95,000 people are left to cope with bad schools, high taxes, corrupt government and political patronage. But then Monroe County is nearly as bad. Lets see...what is the connection? Oh yeah, greedy, grubby political machines interested only in self preservation and personal glory. When will the revolution begin?

To 7:23PM ~~ To answer your question, NO. If he were to do so, he would be stripped of his 20-something "volunteer" positions and a place by Auberger's side for all "important" events. Just my opinion ;)

I think that all of these activities will soon only be open to children and teens with an adult. It's unfortunate because then teens with an adult to chaperon them will not be able to attend. I think the teens need to start standing up from themselves too because everything they like to do is going to to get canceled. They need to see that this behavior is ruining everything for them. Many of the kids are fighting to show off, there needs to be positive peer pressure.

Bill is the epitome of the company man.
He will never speak up.

I'd like to know why no one was arrested. The perpetrators were permitted to board buses and disperse back into the city ... until next time. Maybe they will return for the Barnard Carnival in a few weeks. Will we close that down, too? Maybe we should proactively cancel ALL fun activities planned in Greece. Let's start with the Supervisor's concert series, OK Jack?

Way back in ancient times when Swine 1 ran the town from his happy office next to the retired poopoo tank on Island Cottage a similar problem occurred at Barnard Carnival.

Even in those days before PC it was considered not to be a good thing for the carnival to be invaded by scum, nor was any publicity of the scum problem thought to be good.

Swine decided from his auxiliary office at the Exempt Bar the problem could and would be solved. He sent forth about a dozen of Greeces larger cops without their uniforms to mingle among the carnival goers. They wore lead lined gloves and carried flashlights. When scum surfaced it was beaten senseless and left where it fell. Oddly only about half a dozen bodies lay on the ground some dragged behind booths at nights end. Word went forth and scum found another place to have their fun.

No reports, no ambulance rides, you got there on your own, leave the same way. It worked!

I'm assuming nobody was arrested because the cops were badly outnumbered- 13Wham quoted Pat Phelan as saying they were outnumbered by several hundred. The cops were too afraid of getting their butts kicked to either call in assistance from the State Police, or RPD. That's unacceptable. Talk about letting the inmates run the asylum.

I for one am tired of the PC baloney that rules the reporting. The highest percentage of people at the festival on Monday evening were MINORITIES. Folks it is what it is. Until the community at large acknowledges the problem for what it really is and who it is, we will be held hostage by thug actions.

To 8:24AM ~~ I can't help but wonder if no one was arrested because we don't want them returning on yet another bus to get dropped off for their appearance at Greece Town Court. That would be something Uncle Auggie would be able to see from his office window, MUCH too close for comfort? ;)

To 8:47AM ~~ You're right. No one has had the spine to say that ... yet. I've heard no one talk openly about how it came to be that "SUDDENLY" some 200 teens to '20s showed up all at once. Greece PD really ought to start reading Craigslist and monitor Facebook, MySpace & Twitter. Then, they might get a clue.

Maybe no one was arrested because your crime rate would go up. Isn't Greece one of the "safest communities in America." I laugh at that every time I read/hear it on the news.

SCATS said...

To 10:59AM ~~ No, no, no. Haven't you heard the good news? We don't claim to be one of America's "safest" cities any more. Now we're "Tree City USA!" Of course the forest is infested with certain pests that could devastate the whole stand ... but we don't talk about that ;)

Anonymous said...

Actually the town has run with the tree city designation for a number of years.

We are however, the least safe safe city in the country

SCATS said...

To 5:05PM ~~ I'm not saying it's "new." I'm saying it's been put to the forefront and is replacing the previous designation ~~ From safe town to Tree City. That's a leap.

Anonymous said...

SCATS do NOT leap into the tree. I realize your feline nature might make you think the leap is a good idea, but if the tree is Town owned there is a regulation prohibiting leaping into it. You can be charged and hauled off as a stray to be given over to GRASP for adoption. You don't want to fall into the hands of GRASP SCATS.

They'll stuff you into a small cage at PETCO. Remain calm and lick your nip.
