We are all immigrants. Who knows whether buried in our family past their isn't an illegal or two.

For the most part illegals aren't a source or crime or a drag on the economy.Don;t use them as a scapegoat for our nations troubles.

Pick on the real source of the problem the rich who are sucking the life blood out of the countrty

If you lived in Arizona, California, New Mexico, or Texas you would probably feel differently. By virtue of the fact they are "illegal" they already committed their first crime.

12:54 Yes my grandparents were immigrants and they had to be screened before they could enter the United States. My in-laws were immigrants in the 1960's and they were not able to come here unless they had a job guaranteed with the owner of the company vouching for them. It was a sacrifice to begin again, but they weren't handed anything. They worked every day after they got here and then retired after they were old. Any benefits they receive now they paid for years. And to get health benefits now they are still paying, And they pay taxes. So no bleeding hearts over people who sneak in and then have children that become natural born while their parents are illegal aliens.

This is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen...

"Illegal" immigration, prompted by massive economic disparity, is leading the collapse of the American way of life? (As this buffoon claims at the end of his ditty.) Huh? More like the destruction of the middle class by corporate greed and government complicity.

The vast majority of undocumented immigrants in this country come here to work the menial jobs in this economy that keep our food, construction, and service-sector costs artificially low. By all means, clear out all the "illegals" - just be ready to pay a lot more for your food.

Re: "By virtue of the fact they are "illegal" they already committed their first crime."

Labeling human beings searching for a better life as "illegal" is disgustingly dismissive of people who are willing to risk their lives coming here and live without legal protections to earn money to support their families.

I also laugh at Mr. Buffoon's mocking of language diversity at the beginning of his little tune. At a time when our country, for national security reasons and economic competition, needs greater and more diverse language ability in our population, we have people saying that "English is under threat!" It's ridiculous. Even if an immigrant doesn't speak a lick of English, their children will... and their grandchildren will most likely be mono-lingual in English. Which is unfortunate.

Sadly, this form of nativist resistance to immigrants has been with us since the beginning of our country... so it's nothing new. Each wave of immigrants has always had to face the fear that their arrival creates in those who came before. They'll manage through it, just like every group before them did. I guess it's just part of becoming an American, kind of like fraternity hazing. We make your life hell and then let you join the club.

If you don't like the law of the land, then work to change it. Until then I'm disgusted by those, like you, who just dismiss it to the detriment of all, but most especially to those who serve in our military protecting us against national security threats.

It shouldn't be "Dial one for English" ... it should be "Dial one for Spanish and potential deportation."

Anonymous said...

Speaking Spanish is potential grounds for deportation in your mind? Yeah... I'll stick with my "disgusted" opinion in that case ;)

Guess what? The people in the military would LOVE to have people in the military or working with them who are fluent in the languages of the countries where they are deployed. That would make their job of protecting us against national security threats easier. Guess what? We don't have enough of those people due to attitudes of people like you.

Dial one for brains!

To 5:07PM ~~ When I dial one for brains, I'm sure you won't be taking the call. Our military & intelligence agencies do appreciate people who are multi-lingual. Do you believe that the NSA recruits illegals for such work? I happen to know for a fact that they do NOT!

Again scats don't nibble on this catnip.
Anti-imigrant hysteria has a long and sad history in America. It genreally rears its head in times of economic distress.
THis is just another chapter in the sad story

If you ever smoked a joint had a drink when you were underage drove faster than the speed limit, ran a red light or even engaged in some sexual practices you could be a criminal.
You have to be careful with such arguments.

Most immigrants that are targets are doing grunt work you or I would never do. Many law enforcement officials in Arizona don;t see illegals as posing a crime problem Draconian laws will however, drive them further underground

SCATS said...

To 6PM ~~ There you go twisting things around again, instead of trying to defend the ridiculous argument that our military would welcome illegals for their language abilities. I've always been anti-illegal immigrant, but I am not "anti-immigrant" and never have been. Some of my favorite relatives immigrated and did it via the legal method.

If you support illegal aliens, then you are saying theft of services that you & I pay for through taxes is just fine, too. Stealing services is exactly what these people are doing on a grand scale (by the millions). They are stealing their educations and medical services among other things. If you ever get hit by an undocumented worker who has no insurance I bet you will change your tune.

Wow... that one really hurt. I'll put that retort at a 6-year-old level, although an advanced 5-year-old might be able to pull it off.

Food for thought ;)

Here's some real food for thought:

Derivative payrolls impact Greece budget.

Greece CSD subscribes to BOCES services. BOCES hires people and pays them to perform those services.

Looking at some of the salaries that they pay, one wonders if this is really a good value. What do you think?

I don't know scats.
Some undocumented farm worker who is picking your fruit for a very low wage is probably making money for his employer and and giving you cheap food. She probably deserves some social benefits. I really don't see it as theft of services since we are stealing their labor at a ridiculous wage.

You make it sound like the undocumented are a powerful and malicious group where for the most part they are among the most powerless most exploited group in our society.

Instead of projecting power onto the weak look at what the powerful some of whom may own factory farms that exploit are doing.

To 6:00 at "Most immigrants that are targets are doing grunt work you or I would never do" That might be true for you and me but there are many citizens and legal aliens that would be willing to do that work. The illegal workers you describe are working under the table for very low wages and the people hiring them are also breaking the law by not providing payment to the state and feds for those workers tax and workmen's comp and other benefits. Do you see that as desirable or fair to the businesses that have to follow the regulations of the state? And is it in the end fair to the people that are so fearful that they are working as slaves lest they be deported. Not a good system but it is what you describe.

So you admit you're six-ish in mentality? Very nice. First thing we've agreed on so far!

As for your NSA and illegal immigrant issue. MY comment was in regard to your desire to deport people who speak Spanish. I pointed out that such a mentality is why we do not have enough fluent foreign language speakers in this country. People are bullied into giving up their native languages when they come to this country by nativist pressure.

Anonymous said...

The fact is that this country has laws about immigration. Even if you don't agree with the laws you can't deny that they exist. If you violate the laws and are caught you will be arrested.

to 4:49
I believe the Illegals still might have legal protections when they come here. When they are arrested for any crime, including immigration laws, that get a free lawyer. These lawyers are called Public Defenders. They are free and offer legal protection.

SCATS said...

To 7:10PM ~~ If we pay them anything, we aren't stealing. If the pay is too low for the job done then it is because the employer knows he can take advantage of that person. They do not have to follow most laws that other employers follow, do they? Is anyone ensuring OSHA standards are met? No. Is anyone ensuring that children aren't being made to work, instead of attend school? No. The migrants who break the laws are exchanging their civil rights for a nominal paycheck. That makes the employer wrong too, of course. Turning illegal aliens into essentially slave laborers just because someone else might not do the work (I'm not sure that's true) doesn't make it OK. Wrong is wrong, period. It doesn't become "sorta OK" because you get to buy your fruit at a lower cost. That's the trouble with ethics, I guess.

SCATS said...

To 9:07PM ~~ I admit that only given the caveat that you are several years my junior ;)

We don't "bully" anyone into giving up their language. We should be proactively encouraging them to learn English as a second language. Gee willikers,!! That's the exact thing you want the English speaking Americans to do ~~ learn another language ;)

That's a logical fallacy, a post hoc example. Simply because A and B are present does NOT mean A led to B. The desire to deport illegals (due to rule of law) does NOT lead to a shortage of foreign language speaking LEGAL people here.

Your other points are just as ridiculous.

SCATS supports deporting people who speak Spanish, not just illegals. So your comment makes no sense Graevhenenen.. or whatever your name is.

I wouldn't need to fight my way out of a paper bag. I would just rip it open. Just like I ripped you up.

PWNED!

I'm totally fine taking your insults. The important thing is that I'm not a racist nativist ;)

To 4:31PM ~~ PWNED? What the heck does THAT mean? Were you trying to say "OWNED"? I guess typing while still inside that paper bag is harder than you thought ;) It usually helps to make your point when it's free of such blatantly careless mistakes.

I'm not a "racist nativist" either. I'm just a realist. Let me know if you need me to lend you a claw :)
