BOE Plans Special Meeting

Tuesday, June 22, 2010
6:30PM in the Olympia HS Library

Agenda Items Include:

  • Approval of Nagel Agreement (W/A) (Who the heck is Nagel?)
  • Approval of Family Support Center Lease (W/A) (Listen as the BOE gets suckered into a 3 yr. lease on this without knowing whether we will want to keep it OR if it pays off!)
  • Approval of Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) Software (W/A)
  • Consent Decree Compliance (W/A)
  • New York State Retirement Incentive - Discussion (FINALLY!!!!! Other districts already did this)
  • Board of Education Self-Evaluation (Magnifiers & tweezers NOT included)
  • Board Goals - Discussion (Discussing them doesn't mean they will ever have any)
  • District Goals - Discussion (The PDF document on this does NOT work!)
SCATS ~~ Since there's no Exec. Session listed for the first time in many, many months, we can conclude that the BOE has decided to recycle some other district's has-been superintendent. The question is, when will they tell us who it is?

Scats; what is this "lease" for the family support center all about? I thought we were using the building at 500 Maiden Ln (Town) because we were provideing a service the town used to provide. Does the town now want rent (lease)for that?

To 12:57PM ~~ I don't know if the town asked for rent or not. I do know that after Pat Tydings reinstated the Family Support Center funding to the budget after Achramovitch had removed it (a ridiculous move by Tydings, I might add), Steve brought a three year lease agreement to the BOE for using space at the West Ridge Community Center. He claims that since the space needs to be "built out" that contractors are seeking either a 3 yr. or 5 yr. lease agreement regardless where they put it - due to construction costs. In my opinion, a lease agreement at West Ridge School now is the WORST MOVE GCSD COULD POSSIBLY MAKE for a variety of reasons. As some BOE members already pointed out, we don't know whether there will be any payoff to the district by running such a center. We don't know if we can afford to keep such a center going for the next three years given the future anticipated funding cuts and economic pressures on the school district. In my mind, we don't know the future of district operations at West Ridge School since their enrollment is on a downhill slide. Speaking of which, have they gotten ANY MORE Kindergartners to attend for Sept. than they already had in February?

Scats; thanks for the prompt response. I am still confussed as to how you need to lease your own building? Is Barnard school been spoken for? Has it been sold?

To 2:04PM ~~ To my knowledge, Barnard School has NOT been sold. However, it lacks A/C ;)

Rummor has it someone internally has agreed to take it for 6 months (I guess all the good superintendents are available in Janurary).

To 2:21PM ~~ While I won't rule out ANYTHING with this BOE (including them opting to keep Steve), my gut feeling is they've gone outside GCSD for their fill-in. If they didn't, there will likely be a backlash of upset over it.

Portable AC now availabe for $99-$169. 110 is all you need. Send in the clowns.

To 2:24PM ~~ This is THE SAME BOE who couldn't find $47,000 to hold another vote, BUT DID FIND the extra $$ to reinstate several hundred thousands of $$ in the form of this Family Center and other drivel.

I hear Goofy is being let go in a cost cutting move as Disney. He claims it is age discrimination,

In any case he has a great guffaw which might come in handy at board meetings
