The Charge To The Budget Impact Committee

The challenge before the Board of Education and the Greece community for the coming school year and beyond, both fiscally and academically, is how to maintain and increase academic achievement levels and opportunities for students, despite the economic crisis. There are currently systems in place for the sharing of services, collective bidding, energy management, etc. that have and will continue to provide financial savings to the district. However, the existing financial conditions and the conditions projected for the next two to three years make it necessary to review and analyze district information in a new and different manner. The policy challenge, how to raise achievement levels in the current and economic future, will guide the work of the Budget Impact Committee.

The Committee is charged with establishing broad range issues subject to data gathering and analysis and to provide recommendations to the Board of Education and District Administration regarding these issues and to find efficiencies in our educational system that will free up more funds to support student learning. There is a need to generate local initiatives that utilize the best practices of school districts and other organizations to effectuate cost savings. The Committee will report on the issues pursued, savings achieved or expected, and identify obstacles to the recommendations. The Committee will consider for its review the following issues as well as put forth other issues for study and review:

  • District reorganization and possible consolidation
  • Technology
  • Facilities
Membership on this Committee will include:
  • Board of Education (2)
  • Superintendent
  • Deputy Superintendent
  • PTSA representation (2)
  • School Administrators (3)
  • AGCEP and GTA representation (2)
  • Community/Business representation (3)
  • Town of Greece (1)
  • Facilitator

Another committee?
ANOTHER COMMITTEE????

Would someone please tell me what we are paying MILLIONS $$ in administration costs for???

We have had a finance committee for over 3 years and thier recommendations to the board have been?
The board has asked that committee to do what??

Would someone please tell me when the board is going to TELL the super we want this done or that done.
Is it at all possible for administration to make a decission without a 'study' or a 'committee' to cover their backsides???

Will the school board EVER get out of the micro-management business and show some leadership by holding some people accountable??

A committee of 15 people - are you serious? The finance committee started out with 18 - I think they are down to about 5 now. I went to 'one' meeting about 3 years ago - the biggest waste of time you can imagine.

The bottom line is if you think any of the problems decribed are going to be fixed by a 'committee' then you are a true believer in the tooth fairy.

So the Board of Education wants to learn "how to maintain and increase academic achievement levels and opportunities for students, despite the economic crisis."

Yet, neither person responsible for academic achievement (Ann Mitchell, Carol Pallas) is represented on the committee.

So, the Board of Education charged this committee "to provide recommendations to the Board of Education and District Administration regarding these issues..." dealing specifically with "District reorganization and possible consolidation, Technology, Facilities".

Yet nobody from the Technology or Facility Operations department is represented on the committee.

I have a really stupid idea. How about hiring a Superintendent who can who can lead Greece out of the mess it is in, without shackling them before they even arrive?

Greece Schools: great entertainment. It reminds me that my life doesn't suck as much as I think it does sometimes.

Another committee?. We pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars in Administrative salaries for people with advanced college degrees to run our school district and we have to have a "Budget Impact Committee" to help them figure out the financial crisis this community and state are in?

Good lord!

IMHO Committee = delayed decision-making ... our BOE is gutless when it comes to the tough decisions they were elected to make.

Oooo! Wait a minute! Can I study the committee's results? I haven't done a study since I-don't-know-when!

To 4:18PM ~~ Why not ask -S to hire a consultant to study all of the studies? It will save you lots of time ;)

SCATS,

You should try and get on the committee. Maybe you could affect some real change from the inside.

To 7:16PM ~~ If I wanted to waste my time, I'd rather watch paint dry, but thanks for the thought.

By the way, you know that the camel is a horse designed by a committee, don't you?

The guys who live in the desert might have a different thought on the committee.
Maybe with someone one the committee who could actually tie their own shoes, something might get accomplished.

To 8:11PM ~~ Next you'll want someone who can multi-task ... someone who can walk & chew gum at the same time. That's a lot to ask of a volunteer.

Send it to the finance committee; they do nothing really well!
(That is if the transportation committee is too busy!)
