Patrick Tydings: The BOE's Buffoonish Prez.

During the first hour of Tuesday night's Greece school board meeting, policy enforcement was thrown completely out the window on Apollo's 3rd. floor. Apparently, school board President Patrick Tydings lost his voice during Resident's Forum where the rules, i.e. board policies, were repeatedly broken. Or maybe, it served his own purposes, i.e. his personal agenda ... hmmm ...

One speaker shared their time at the podium with a large number of others. Because it wasn't stopped, this group went over their allotted 5 minutes for addressing the BOE, another infraction which Tydings rewarded by granting them permission to continue to the end. That's two infractions by one group. Oops!

One of GTA's bullies (who is already represented when his union's Prez. speaks to the BOE during a specific time slot) was permitted to rail-on about how the BOE and Supt. picked-on his union last month. He lambasted a board member by name, and the Supt, too. Two more infractions. Oops!!

Others who spoke during the time allotted for Student leaders, union leaders, etc. were also permitted to lambaste specific people by name. It seems to me that if the taxpayers who address the BOE during Resident's Forum aren't allowed to do this as per policy (or are they?) then the people we pay to teach and administer in the district shouldn't be permitted to either ... and most especially NOT THE STUDENTS! Mr. Tydings sat silently while a "Student Leader" called out the same BOE member the GTA bully had named earlier! I guess some of our students learn quickly after all. No wonder there's major discipline problems in our schools!!

How ironic that tonight the BOE agenda included the Second Read of Policy 1321 - Duties of the Pres. of the BOE which the BOE adopted (8-0)! One part of that policy states that the BOE Prez.will "Conduct Board meetings and manage the discussion and debate." OOPSIE!! Patrick Tydings failed miserably at this! And this isn't the first time.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Tydings implored his colleagues with a strong reminder that he "wants the BOE to support the adopted budget, as required by the code of conduct and by policy."

WHO IS HE KIDDING?

Right on Scats! Tydings couldn't get a clue if it were handed to him. He lacks any measurable understanding of Robert's Rules, board policy, education law and basic logic. But I bet he makes a dam good lawyer lol!!!!!!

To 11AM ~~ Thanks for checking in and letting us all know that GTA still reads SCATS :D

P.S. ~ I knew you never actually went away ... how about that wage freeze idea? It's still not too late ;)

11 am - Even more ironic is that a person who so deeply detests this site (you) would bother keeping track.

To 1:44PM ~~ Don't waste your time trying to reason with such people. It's useless, but thanks for the support.

I find it humerous that SCATS ALWAYS blames the GTA for comments such as those from 11:00 a.m. And, 1:44 p.m. - where did the first poster day that he/she "detests" this site. Just because he/she calls out the almighty SCATS for not adhering to his/her own rules doesn't mean that a) they are a member of any unionized group or that b) they detest differing opinions.

To 2:43 PM ~~ I'm glad you got a chuckle :) I expected GTA to react to my BLOG. And I believe they did ;) Thanks :)

To 11AM & 2:43PM ~~ Upon further research, I changed the title of the BLOG to use the adjective form of the word ... "buffoonish" ... instead of the noun. I didn't realize there was such an adjective, or I'd have used it last night. It was always my intent to use the word "buffoon" as a descriptor/adjective, thus it was followed by "Prez."

Now that my grammar is correct, I've satisfied the rule AND already explained in the BLOG the behavior Tydings used to show us he is one. Happy now? :)

To 7:01PM ~~ What does "pwned" mean?

Dear SCATS,

The GTA bully that you referred to is a Greece resident and parent. Seems to me that he has every right to speak.

Both rooms were full of GTA bullies. A resident who was not sympathetic to teachers issues spoke his piece. The peanut gallery treated him with respect. They listened silently and were in no way disrespectful. If he was speaking for the closing of a particular school or in favor of firing a popular coach, the audience would have not been so polite. It could have been really ugly.

Like it or not, the district is obliged to honor contracts. The public employees are easy targets. Maybe both sides need to ease up a bit and get this stuff settled.

Good thing that guy was not in a room full of sports parents. They wouldn't sit there like those teachers.

I remember some years back that the head of some sports boosters group pushed an old guy the night that a sports budget was defeated.

To 8:48PM ~~ He has every right to speak about parent or taxpayer issues, I agree. Speaking about GTA issues is covered by the union Prez. which is why that man's paycheck gets hit up for dues every month. That is done in a different forum & it should be kept there.

I agree with you that "Maybe both sides need to ease up a bit and get this stuff settled".

The only problem is that the GTA has absolutely no incentive to settle anything. Their contract basically lives forever. Unfortunately times have changed and we need to tighten our belts. If they were to truly negotiate in goof faith, I am certain their contract would look quite different. Instead they can simply stall and wait and continue to get raises and increases in benefits that the private sector has gone without for a few years.

If these people are the guiding force they want us to think they are, why not step up and do the right thing. Offer some concessions, anything to a community that is being taxed into the soup line.

The figures used by the gta president tuesday night in response to the gentleman promoting vouchers comparing the cost of Greece education to private was disingenuous. I suspect he was trying to be cute in front of his membership. A message to him, I do not find people purposly disingenuous to be cute.

Dear 7:35 AM
I am sure Mr. Pallozzi could give a crap about your opinion and the fact that you think he is not cute.

To 9:39AM ~~ If he's the true "professional" he professes to be, then he better give one. I think it's in the fine print in that contract ;)
