WR Kindergarten Update

From the Facebook "Save West Ridge Kindergarten" page:

"We have 50 registered kdg. for next year. That is 2 classes. We need 24 more students for a 3rd class. We do have a waiting list started for the 3rd class. The PR committee is up & running. Pennies 4 Eric has had a strong response & the Greece Post will be at school to interview students. Info coming out for Strong Walk & Cancer Walk. Great way to promote WR. Last ad going our this week in an insert in the Greece Post. Check out the Save West Ridge page to view it & all the other ones that have been out. Keep promoting West Ridge! Thanks for all your support & help."

SCATS ~~ Isn't it sad that these misguided school-of-choice parents will put so much time, energy & resources into saving a private school kindergarten atmosphere, but have NOTHING TO SAY about GCSD's tanking graduation rates, discipline problems, budget dilemmas and a host of other issues that impact all Greece students negatively?

Smith was found not guilty. Maybe it will be a trend.

SCATS:

What is equally sad is a BOE, without a back bone, that is supporting keeping WR open while cutting teachers and summer school.

This is at a time of tax rate increase of greater than 7%.

Sincerely

Doug Skeet

To Doug ~~ I couldn't agree more! And as Charlie Hubbard has pointed out, they can't state any benefit to the district for doing so.

So if everyone is so concerned why weren't they at the meeting last night? There were only four or five people in attendance.

But yet people want to whine and complain on this blog.

We need to bottle what these people are trying to do. They are passionate about their school and their kids! If only every parent was throughout the district.

To 10:44AM ~~ I've already heard all I need to know about the budget to be able to cast my "NO" vote in May. The BOE has already decided that WR can do whatever they want until the end of July, which is a long time AFTER the budget vote. Sitting in on last night's meeting would have been the waste of a nice spring evening.

To 10:59AM ~~ There is a fine line that deliniates "passionate" from fanatical. Encouraging elementary school children to cry into a mic for TV cameras, the BOE, a roomful of "professionals" (disguised as teachers) and parents crosses that line in my mind.

Perhaps the spineless members of the BOE who are actually interested in providing a QUALITY education recognize that dismantling one of the best-performing school in the district would be just plain stupid.

To 10:33AM ~~ Do you realize how arrogant you sound? If I could open a school with both hand selected staff and students, I'd be able to have the school "perform" too. Get over it. The truth is that schools-of-choice no longer serve the purpose for which they were created. Let's put your high-performing students back where they belong so they can help raise up the rest of the district. If you want a private school, feel free to apply to Harley or Allendale-Columbia. Then your kid can feel a bit of academic competition ... if they can pass the admission exam ;)

The fact that an advertising campaign is needed to fill WR Kindergarden classes with students after WR has been a GCSD staple for a decade is a clear message to the Board of Education that it isn't wanted or valued by today's parents.

Put it (the program) in hospice. Let it go. Put your efforts into reintegrating it into the neighborhood school program.

To Capt Obvious ~~ Good to hear from you :) I agree. By the way, West Ridge has been around for 20 yrs. now, can you believe?

Neighborhood schools will help bring everyone's school performance up.

Can I get one thing in my Easter basket if nothing else? How's about that transportation report! How long can we and the pathetic BOE sit around demanding, yet not seeing this report?
