Retirement of Accused Sex Offender Approved

Board members Roger Boily, Sean McCabe, Gale O’Toole, Jeff Smith & Patrick Tydings approved the retirement of West Ridge teacher Barry Morris. Julia VanOrman abstained and refused to comment. Morris had been charged in July 2009 with first-degree criminal sex act & endangering the welfare of a child. Asst. DA Sara VanStrydonck said the case was supposed to go to trial March 22, but has been adjourned without a new date. STORY

SCATS ~~ Sounds like Barry Morris is the latest to get a sweet deal from the Monroe County DA's office - retire and we won't prosecute? It's very interesting that Julia VanOrman abstained and refused to say why since Policy 1513 states: "All Board members must vote on all motions and resolutions submitted for action except in situations where a member has disqualified himself/herself because of a potential or real conflict of interest."

GPD Arrests NYC Felon

With respect to the policy - If the board member doesn't go on the record with their reason for the abstention, how can we know that the policy is being followed? Maybe we should assume that Barry is her uncle......

To 4:54PM ~~ The policy doesn't say absence from a meeting is a reason not to vote either ;)

So, he is allowed to retire???
Does that mean that he is taking part in the retirement package previously announced to help reduce the number of teachers?
Does he get to keep his pension?
How much more of my money will this pervert get?

White Swan is behind Lowes. Is it the same place that is close to the new location for social security?
These are subsidized.

Anonymous said...

White Swan is not behind Lowes. It's off North Greece Road, near Pep Boys.

Behind Kohls but you cannot access the apartments from the Kohls parking lot and vice versa. The social security offices are behind Kohl's too.

5:40 - It's past the deadline for him to receive the retirement incentive. He would've had to inform the district right after February break. No idea about the other questions, though.

Anonymous said...

Maybe he did inform them by that deadline and they only made it official by approving it.
How young is the child? First it says under 18 consensual and then it says under 13. Was it 2 children?

SCATS:
Can we assume (dangerous ASS U ME) that Oberg, Ferrington and Hockey Mom voted againist accepting his retirement?

Sincerely

Doug Skeet

SCATS said...

To Doug ~~ I wouldn't assume that since I know Oberg missed several recent meetings due to health reasons. I'm not sure if the other three were there or not. There was one meeting when only six BOE members attended. I can't recall when ... sorry :/

SCATS said...

To 9:28PM ~~ If I recall from something I read months ago, I think the child was around 12 or
13.

Doug, the six who voted for this did it "for the kids!"

What a sorry state of affairs this district is in. Shameful!!!!!

SCATS/10:50 am

Thank you! I could not agree more with you 10:50 am.

Our continued placement of second from the bottom in MC on graduation rates and last place Oly. and second from last for Arc. is so.........sad and borders on crimal for lack of meaningful action by the BOE and school Supt.

We are in last place on some standardized testing but we have the highest percentage in MC in one area and that is in high school dropouts. Oly. leads MC at 13%.

Sincerely

Doug...and, once again, YOUR suggestions for improvement are....?

Anonymous said...

to 2:38- I know you didn't ask me but getting the board to discuss EDUCATION is like pulling teeth. They talk about everything but that.

Anonymous said...

Suppose that after review, it is determined that the charges aren't substantiated by the evidence?

Barry returns to work? Yeah, right.

Every day that he walks the halls, he would be the subject of whispers and innuendo.

Put yourself in the position of being falsely accused, publicly. You are in a no-win position.

Hope that it doesn't ever happen to you.

SCATS said...

To 6:18PM ~~ The case has been adjourned, not dismissed. What makes you think he'll be off-the-hook?

To: 2:38 PM

First of all and once again.....I have listed my suggestions for improvement numberous times on this blog and on GreeceSchools.com

Secondly and more important I am only reporting what is. I summarize NYSED data and report the facts or what is reality in Greece regarding test scores and graduation rates.

My "opinions" and or "suggestions" mean NOTHING. Individuals, the BOE, the school Supt. and teachers have the direct responsibility and are PAID (not the BOE) to fix the wrong in Greece Central. THEY ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB!!

The Greece Community is apparently happy with last place test scores, second to last place graduation rates and in first place with high school dropouts.

As long as the Greece Chamber of Commerce, "everything is wonderful in Greece" and the Greece Republican Party (keep the power and ego at all cost).

Just on example at the last BOE meeting elementary and middle school summer school was cut from the budget while keeping:

The K at W.R. over the recommendation of cutting K from the Supt.of Schools
Recommendation: Close the entire WR school starting in Sept. 2010.
Cut all signature schools
Cut schools of choice
Pay to play sports, drama, musicals and clubs
Increase walking distance at all levels
Increase class size at all levels

Put back summer school.

Sincerely

either way, at this point, he is innocent until proven guilty. Our legal system is based on it, so do guilty people sometimes get a sweet deal, yep and that is how we keep our government from sneaking around and snatching people in the night or detaining them for no reason. If charges are dropped or found to be "unfounded" would you let him retire then?

SCATS said...

To 7:29PM ~~ I don't know if I'd "let him" retire then. That very much depends on the details of what happens at his trial. You ought to contact former GPD Sgt. Brian Ball and help him out. ALL CHARGES against him have evaporated. But Uncle Auggie won't let him have his job back. So he's fighting Town Hall via his union.

Scats 6:18-
What makes you think he's guilty? Anybody can be "charged" with anything in this country. Doing so becomes a simple slow spiral to professional death for the incorrectly accused.

Adding the word "alleged" to a story does nothing except keep the writer free from being charged themselves with defamation.

Brian Ball is another example of an interesting bias that you are showing. No charges stuck, yet he's unable to work. What if that was you?

By the way, this is also a FANTASTIC example of how Greece Central School Districts' administration has gotten people to leave the district without going to 3020a and 75 hearings. Its enough to "charge" and isolate the individuals and let time take its' toll on them. It has happened since the Steven L. Walts days and continues until today. How's that "toxic culture" thing coming?

I am surprised that you've become such a servant to the Walts agenda, SCATS.

SCATS said...

To 8:31PM ~~ I haven't said he is guilty, but I will say I think it's very likely that something inappropriate happened. I'm basing that on more than just what was published in the paper. As I said before, the details of the court case will be telling, won't they?

I disagree with your contention that: " Anybody can be "charged" with anything in this country." As far as I'm aware, it usually takes some evidence to substantiate the charge. The police don't go around arresting & charging people willy-nilly, do they?

Using the word "alleged" isn't inaccurate, is it? No? Then why try to make it sound like reporting on those who are charged with crimes is a crime itself? It isn't.

Regarding Brian Ball ... are you aware that the new Police Chief is going around town telling crowds of people that Ball won't be back even though he's fighting through his union to get his job back? It's not my bias, it's Town Hall's and GPD's ;) Apparently, they know something we haven't been told. My personal belief is that there was something going on with him behind the scenes long before the shredding party. He was one very cocky Sgt.

As for me being "a servant to the Walts agenda," I'm not sure what that agenda is. He left town long ago, didn't he?
