Calming Nerves Or Confusing His Message?

I'm sure Chief Baxter hoped to calm an uneasy community with this quote: "This crime could have happened anywhere, in Brighton or Pittsford. This was specific and targeted and had nothing to do with the town of Greece ... The community is our eyes and ears out there."  ~~ Chief Todd Baxter (D&C)

It misses the mark for me. In fact, it sounds completely contradictory. Does the Chief understand that what is scaring people is the fact that it "COULD HAVE HAPPENED ANYWHERE?"

Worse yet, the resident quoted below has taken the "you'll be fine if you keep your head in the sand" approach, despite Baxter's repeated emphasis on how the community can help his men solve or prevent crime.

"I don't think it's random, it was specific, and if you're minding your own business, doing what you're supposed to do, you should be fine." ~~ Dewey area resident Camille Julian (13WHAM)

How Safe Do YOU Feel?

with Auggie and his crew supervising the career policemen and shadowing his every move, I feel fine

What if you are minding your own business in the next apartment reading and the bullet passes through the wall and hits you? We should all be afraid.

As you love to say to everyone else SCATS, why don't you speak directly to the new chief if you are unclear and confused instead of trying to guess.

To 12:41PM ~~ I'm not confused. I'm pointing out that his statement is contradictory and thereby sounds confused. If it was specifically targeted, then it could NOT have happened anywhere but in Holyoke Apts. in Greece. Get it?

It's only contradictory according to you SCATS. Do YOU get that? Apparently you require clarification and should reach out to the source to help you understand better. Therefore I suggest you take your own advice.

To 1:34PM ~~"This crime could have happened anywhere." ~~ That means it was random!

"This was specific and targeted and had nothing to do with the town of Greece." ~~ That means it was NOT random.

I've thoroughly explained and shown how Baxter's quote is contradictory. You've failed to make any case to support your contention that it isn't. Of course, it's obvious your only point is your failed attempt to try to trash me. Maybe on a different day ... but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you ;)

1:34- Really dude arguing with the Scatman doesn't pay! I hope you aren't on the clock when you blog. My taxes are high enough.

The best thing about Baxter so far is he's willing to talk about things that never got talked about before. He keeps mentioning the gun incidents at Dennys and the mall instead of pretending it never happened. I agree that he shouldn't be monitored by the town hall gang every time he gets out with the public. It makes them look paranoid.

Was it drugs, arms, gambling, money laundering? Any of those. The people/person (rambo?) that did the killing were very professional and were expected by the people in the apartment. They had an appointment. Then they decided to kill the 3 men. Probably planned from the start.
And that crime had to take place where it did because it was not random. It was targeted to people that were in that apartment. Just a possible explanation if it was targeted.

To 2:45PM ~~ You get a gold star for paying attention :)

To 4:22PM ~~ Agreed on all counts.

To 4:26PM ~~ It probably was "targeted" but that doesn't mean we're all safer, because it was. The bigger issue here is that SERIOUS CRIMES are being committed in Greece with some regularity. More of them involve guns. Not everyone's aim is as good it should be, so any of us could end up as collateral damage.

To scats at 4:37 from 4:26. I thoroughly agree. I like your statement "Not everyone's aim is as good it should be"

It could be taken as marksmen accuracy or as a philosophical idea. Aim as a mission.

SCATS said...

To 5:37PM ~~ Thank you ;) As it turns out, these guys weren't "marksmen." I just heard on the news that a resident who lived under the apt. where the crime took place called police today after discovering a bullet hole in the ceiling and a bullet lodged in the floor of his apt. I can't understand why this wasn't discovered yesterday when the apt/crime scene was processed. It reminds me of the bullet hole found in the side of the house more than 24 hrs. after GPD processed the crime scene when Cervini was killed.

GPD has that lovely target range over on Island Cottage, they should offer firearm training to criminals. That would make Greece safer.

Baxter got a reminder today from the Rochester Fire Dept, recorders are very small and they are everyplace. Hell he probably pats his wife down before they go to bed just in case he says anything in bed.

Anyone who thinks they are safe anyplace is in for a shock.

To 12:53AM ~~ Maybe they already have trained criminals on that range ... "Citizen's Police Academy: Hundreds served!"

He's doing just fine. Give him a break for a few months. Your public speaking needs work as well and you sure don't think fast your feet!

("You" is all you complainers)

To 9:38AM ~~ Wow! You think this guy is some rookie cop, who never before had to speak into a mic? Sorry, but you apparently weren't watching the news when he was with RPD. There's nothing different about the cameras & mics in Greece ~~ Same reporters, same annoying cameramen! Your "excuse" has been gonged ;)
