EFP Audit Report Makes News In PWC

The recommendation to hire an internal auditor made in 2008 was not followed by the school division where Walts is currently employed.

His travel expenses during 2009 was the subject of a newspaper investigation

Keith Imon responds by email to inquiry regarding EFP audit:  "The Superintendent is confident that he followed all processes and procedures in his former school district and served in the best interests of the students. He remains fully focused on the excellent progress we continue to make over the past five years in Prince William County Public Schools."

Scats give it up on Walts-we can't change the past-we need to focus on the present and the future...

Just so you know these travel charges by procedure should have been signed off by the board president.

And the board president at the time was Phelan I believe. You know the Phlean that filed bankruptcy to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars.

there is just way too much cronyism around here.

It like one big water authority

I have to laugh, Keith Imon is still spewing forth the same lies that he spread here. Remember the headline "Test Results Soar!" This, while we were dropping to the bottom of the county list. How can anyone believe a word he utters.

"While the piano may be over the top"

MAY BE? You've got to be kidding. Obviously, you've drunk the koolaid. Was it from that $10,000 fountain????

BLOG Administration deleted the comment posted at 9:20AM , edited out some names and is reposting it below. At the very least use initials, thank you. The comment by 2:15PM was deleted for similar reasons. However, since this person admitted another post shouldn't have used names, the author went ahead and used names anyway. I'm not going to reward this kind of stupidity by wasting my time editing.

The judge that presided over his bankruptcy was Xxxxx who is married to Xxxx Xxxxxxxxx who got the $100,000 grand piano and the "ranatorium" aka performing arts center of athena with all its cost over runs. Well at least it will get us on British reality TV when they are shadowing the Athena show choir.
Quid pro quo.
And it doesn't hurt to have an ex-police chief in your corner when you are caught in the park in the dark. So we know they all had each others backs.
And you have to love the canned statements from Imon. He is paid to be the spokesperson for the Prince William district, not Steve's personal mouthpiece. He should have to speak for himself. Those people should demand he speak for himself and not hide behind someone.

"moving forward" How touching a concept. Who on the board used to say that as a mantra when she wasn't talking about cutting some board members "off at the knees".

Yes we all should move forward wearing blinders so we can never look to the side or (horrors) look behind.
Obviously we have to look into the past as these state investigators have. Otherwise anyone could get away with not following proper fiscal procedures and,
as long as the violation was discovered years later, get off without any accountability.

I wonder if as a youth that superintendent did not do his homework correctly did his mother call the teacher for him and say he was "confident he had followed all procedures" and was "focused on excellent progress" so it's no big deal.

To 6:56AM ~~ I will NEVER GIVE UP ON MR. WALTS AS LONG AS WE CONTINUE TO GET FINANCIALLY REAMED IN THE PRESENT BY HIS PAST ACTIONS!

I forwarded the links & other info about the EFP audit to certain Walts watchers in PWC, and their media had the story out in under 24hrs. down PWC-way. We may be stuck paying for his health care, but I may also someday cause him to really need it ;)

Aw you ought to see some of the infrared pictures of Swine 1 and Nancy in the Barnard Exempt parking lot.

Swine knows a lot about covering things up, well, other than when he isn't aware he's posing for snapshots.

Scats, thank you for not giving up on the Walts situation. The entire thing makes me sick. I still do not understand how and why we are continuing to pay for this.

SCATS said...

To 5:13PM ~~ If it still annoys people here about his name being brought up, then I guess the efforts to try to protect him are still felt to be necessary. Until we stop wasting $$ on his health care, I'll continue to remind people both here & in PWC about the TRUTH about Steve Walts.

Scats really you edit and delete names yet leave "ranatorium"? I think it is still a clear indicator of the indented.

And BTW I am not sure why you "really" deleted my post as the name I used was as per fact of a job held and in no way was slanderous. If it was due to names being used then the ref to the the named teacher (her nick name) and the APAC should be off limits as well.

SCATS said...

To 5:44PM ~~ I already explained the reason for the deletion. I'm sorry if you don't "get it."

Can you prove who "ranatorium" refers to? I've never seen that reference before now.

Anonymous said...

Imon is just as crooked as Keith Johnson and Walts.
He is the one who let them steal all the Technology equipment. Yes,
They got caught. Who was watching the store that day? Do you know Ed?

Anonymous said...

Yes I can prove it, as all the students call the teacher RAN and have for year. They did when I was there 22 years ago and still do. So it is self evident if it is referred to as the "ranatorium" who the insult is hurled at, especially given the context of the post.

That is what I don't get.

SCATS said...

To 8:42PM ~~ I would expect that a Greece teacher would have thicker skin than to be insulted by such a mundane reference as that. I think it's rather interesting that you are "defending" someone who could easily defend herself, if she actually felt insulted. What's your connection?

Anonymous said...

Did the additional audit show any new financial indiscretions by our BOE (that we could recover) that were not found by the state audit? I was surprised that in spite of the $2M overrun on the building costs, the $100K piano and the other costs highlighted in the paper, GCSD hopes to recover so little!?! Did we at least identify enough additional mistakes that we can pay for the extra audit?

Anonymous said...

I am a former GA student and now a parent nothing more. And it is not defending. had it been merely the "***atorium" with out the other context it would have been different. However the tone of the initial post served to degrade the character of the 2 and that is why I question it.

I fully believe that anyone is able to express opinions, heck I agree the cost was over the top for the APAC.
I disagree that one teacher is the reason we have the APAC.

I do appreciate that this forum is very mature and we can respectfully disagree on certain items. Thank you.

SCATS said...

To 9:13AM ~~ So now we've gone from feeling insulted to feeling degraded over ranatorium? So much drama over so little. Heck, I wonder what you would be saying if there were a BIGGER scandal? If you believe the person in question has little political clout, I've got some swampland in Florida I'm sure you will love. Other schools have auditoriums. A-PAC is in a league all its own and I think most people who have awareness about how things inside GCSD happen would agree that a certain someone's Show Choir was at the forefront of the minds of many when that facility was designed and built. Let's not forget this group has held million dollar fundraisers and other over-the-top attention grabbers over the years. Who else would a Steinway be resting in storage for?

SCATS said...

To 8:01AM ~~ I've wondered the same thing myself! What did we gain by expending more money on this audit, other than patting the BOE on the back for "doing all they could"? ;)

For all of his other failings, Steven L. Walts provided a truly professional (dare I say "World Class"?) facility to the students and community.

Rather than making something of it, the community finds fault at every turn. It fails to capitalize on the facility (Greece as a home for RBTL? Naw!).

The Greece Community hates itself so much that it takes its' shining gem and wishes it were a hunk of coal instead.

This self-loathing must end. It is a disgrace to the memory of the Italian immigrants that build the community in the early part of the 20th century and a dis-service to its' citizens of tomorrow.

Maybe the next Superintendent can find a way to re-instill school and community pride. Maybe the community hates itself so much that it will never regain its' once pride stature. Only time will tell.

SCATS said...

To 2:06PM ~~ You call a building with all of the problems that one has and all of the extra expenses it requires to fix them a "World Class" facility? Let's see, the roof wasn't secured to the building. There are many seats with no view. Most seats have too little leg room to accomodate people comfortably. The cost overruns and change orders have created havoc since the day it was erected. I don't know about you but I take pride in things that are done well. It wasn't even close. The ranatorium has been a World Class Headache, a drain on the taxpayer's wallets and an embarassment to us all. Odd that you are "proud" of that.

You have focused on the negatives as a good Greece resident should.

Let me tell you how it looks from outside of Greece.

Steven L. Walts designed the PAC at Athena High School to be a state-of-the art venue for the Arts. The fact that both incompetent contractors and project managers allowed it to be built incorrectly shouldn't detract from that fact.

It was good enough to host a sitting President of the United States. However, in typical Greece self-loathing, even that visit didn't make the decade's top 10 happenings in the area.

With corrections applied, it can truly be a diamond. Alas, Greece residents demand coal instead.

Instead of celebrating her accomplishments (including having a high enough profile to attract a BBC documentary), JR's name is dragged through the mud on this blog.

Greece sucks. Residents know it. They wouldn't have it any other way.

SCATS said...

To 2:52PM ~~ The fact is that years later, this building still hasn't been put right. Had Secret Service known about the wind clip problem no President, sitting or otherwise would have been permitted to step foot inside. I do agree that Dubbya's visit should have made it on the Top 10 list, but he wasn't terribly popular upon his exit from the White House and we live in an area that has a high concentration of Democrats, so ...

For the record, it wasn't "JR's name" that attracted the Brits. It was a Youtube performance by the Show Choir. Please don't elevate her above the status of teacher. That is her title and most of them say they are proud to be one.

Anonymous said...

Now, you're talkin', SCATS.

The problem is that "years later, the problem still hasn't been put right."

WHY DO GREECE PARENTS AND TAXPAYERS PUT UP WITH THAT LEVEL OF INCOMPETENCE?!?

Make it right, already! Polish that puppy up and showcase it! What's stopping you? Are you all really as lame as you think you are? :)

Anonymous said...

Oh, and "for the record" there are PLENTY of show choir performances on YouTube. Greece wouldn't have gotten noticed had it not been for JR's active leadership and ability to motivate her students to such high performance levels.

Your community and schools have all the makings of true Greatness and choose to prefer anonymity. What's with that?!

SCATS said...

To 11:19AM ~~ You really have to ask?? Remember, we just re-elected the "leader" who guided us to headlines that made "Greece" and "corruption" synonymous over the last few years.

To 11:23AM ~~ Say what you will but JR is still "just" a teacher. Her title hasn't changed and won't. A reacher's job is to try to forge something grand for/about the students! It is the students and their performance who brought the Brits here. It is the students who might someday become celebrities. JR remains a teacher.

What do you mean we choose anonymity? Are you referring to this BLOG or to something else?

Anonymous said...

The general Greece community has such a low opinion of itself that they allow such incompetence.

The community itself prefers to be anonymous, rather than be great. The people who step up are referred to as "just ___" (in this case, 'a teacher').

The board of education publicly votes to no longer pursue Walts health insurance benefits and yet the thread lives on here, ad nauseum.

I have come to believe that unless Greece residents are miserable, they are not happy.

To those people, I say "have a bad day". You deserve it, from the bottom of my heart.

SCATS said...

To 5:59AM ~~ The community prefers anonymity rather than subject themselves to the intimidation and threats that others use to silence any criticism. On Vince Tofany Blvd., your name is much more important than your problem. I've observed this time & time again. Most recently was when I called to arrange a hearing on my new tax levy, I had some questions to ask before deciding to schedule anything. They REFUSED to talk until I gave my name, address and phone number! That info isn't needed to tell me whether or not the entire town was reassessed, etc.

Regarding Walts' Health Care ~~ Just because some on the BOE voted that way now doesn't mean it couldn't be reopened in the future. All it takes is 5 votes. As long as we are paying for it, it can be brought back to the table at any point. As long as I'm paying for it, I will do my utmost to ensure that fellow is kept busy dodging the media. Following the release of the EFP audit here, PWC media ran the story and people are once again writing to me and others for info about his past. He is a man on the run. His misery is my happiness on this issue :) I'm paying for the privilege.
