Promoting From Within GPD: A Good Idea?

A check on the Monroe County website link to Civil Service Exams shows there's no shortage of interested cops seeking to move into Sgt. or Lt. positions within the Greece Police Dept. We've lost a number of Sgts. and a couple of Lts. during the scandals, so this is no surprise.

As I look through those lists, I recognize quite a few names, many of people I've met. None of them particularly impressed me at the time. None stand out as superior candidates for promotion now.

Something that really troubles me is that the familiar names are cops who worked at GPD long before Nick Joseph got drunk, coked himself up and rocketed into the rearend of another vehicle late one night on I-390. These other officers worked side by side with Joseph and Pignato. They followed the orders of Rahn. Surely they MUST HAVE KNOWN something was amiss in GPD. Yet they remained silent.

How can we trust these men in positions of greater authority when we already know they did not step up and do the right thing previously? How can we be sure that the dysfunction within GPD is gone when they remain? I'm convinced it is not.

While I'm impressed with what I've seen and heard from Todd Baxter, I also know that when one person is sent into a dysfunctional group to do "a rescue," it's a recipe for disaster. The dysfunction typically sucks-in the person who sought to put things right UNLESS they have another person accompany them for frequent reality checks. For this reason, the selection of Deputy Chief is as important as the selection of Baxter.

I hope you have another good man to bring with you, Todd!

Re: "I also know" ... How do you know?

To 11:42AM ~~ Dr. Phil told me so ;)

It's considered SOP in staging an intervention into a severely dysfunctional/addictive system.

I thought Uhrmacher was going to be Deputy Chief.....?

can the police dept really be cleaned up while Auberger is in power?

He has and will continue to have spies

Auberger did ALL of the hiring. Did that change? I haven't seen it.
Urmacher is going to retire as he should. He was passed over for chief. Settling for second best would be just that, settling.

The cops are already getting back to business as usual like before Nickie crashed his bro's car. Look at Tim Hortons and other cop-gathering places. The parking lots and diners are full of cops on break again.

To 1:30PM ~~ Another option is Urmacher could always go back to his position as Lt. I know that would be tough after being acting chief.

Hairburger doesn't need spies, he is legally the chief law enforcment oficer of the Town and has full access to all workings of the PoPo.

Urmacher will continue to ride the Pension System on the R.O.A.D. program. The dust will settle, and the Town will continue to write Town Traffic Tickets for more revenue.

On the bright side, we no longer own and support a Police Yacht, Swine1 is retired from both the Town & School Board, the Goon Squad is gone, Joanne threw Johnboy out of the house he pays for, and she and her kid are both on the payroll.

All is love.

This guy will not be sucked into anything. You are dead right a 90 man dept and nobody knew anything. The good guys stood down and looked the other way. That will not be an option this time around. Like I said culture shock. Hang on boys it is gonna be a rough ride for some of you. Baxter talks the talk and walks the walk. He will quit before being corrupted.

The Town of Greece Court generates the second highest earning revenue outside of Long Island.

I have often wondered about Greece police and tickets.
They seem to target women, minorities and younger folks, at least that is the impression I get driving around town

Are we another podunk town as in that forgettable feature "Nothing but Trouble" (wasting the considerable talents of Demi Moore Chevy Chase John Candy and Dan Ackroyd) Who is our Judge Valkenheiser
I'd tell you to go watch the film but it is rather unwatchable
If you have tried yo know what I mean
Unwatchable in the same way I imagine a film about the folks who run greece might be like
Who could star in that?

Don Knotts is dead so that eliminates one obvious candidate for Merritt Rahn
Tim Conway though is available for Jeff McCann

That list is relatively old and a lot of promotions have already been made off of it..

To 6:06PM ~~ There is more than one list and they are the most recent lists. The bigger point is whether or not promotion from within will lead us down a different path.

SCATS...I understand your reasoning and it is valid, but no matter who is running GPD, middle level supervisory position promotions are based a lot on civil service scores. Those lists are generic for the entire county, but each agency makes its own list based on who took the test within the agency. GPD can't just go take a Sheriff's Deputy who took the test and promote him. Additionally, the rule of three applies. If one person is being promoted, they have to be taken from the top three scores; and so forth; unless those who score high and are being passed over sign off.

Speaking of Conway I like Carol Burnett for I am he, She did those ditsy secretaries and can imitate Firkins' preoccupation (I will put it politely) with very high heel shoes and her forthcoming back problems really well.

"Surely they MUST HAVE KNOWN something was amiss in GPD. Yet they remained silent."

Because when you speak out, you are targeted. That goes for GPD and GCSD.

An ongoing lesson to those employed in both organizations.

Way till you see Helfers brother and his side kick promoted. Their is still a lot of trash at GPD. The drunks and gamblers and drug users are still their.

apparently us tax payers can not get enough of of the good lovin we get form the town hall. I wonder if Helfers side kick likes to gamble and had a coke with Nick Joseph late at night.

To 8:03PM ~~ Indeed you are correct. Sadly, the sheeple re-elected those who enjoy making targets out of the whistle-blowers.

And then they all went for massages at the Rub and Tub on Ling Road.

The town of Greece and everyone who lives there deserves exactly what they get. THey weren't even smart enough to get rid of Auggie when they had the chance. You people are the laughting stock of Monroe County. You deserve Auggie and all his lies including that dumb bell Baxter. He couldn't even graduate from high school and he beat out the guy from Iron and Web. What does that tell you?
