2PM Press Conference @ Greece Town Hall

CAPT. TODD BAXTER
NEW POLICE CHIEF

“If he is chosen I will be very, very happy for Todd and his family and his kids. I'll be very happy for the Greece Police Department. I'll be very sad for the Rochester Police Department because his loss will leave a void that will be very, very hard to fill." ~~ Bob Duffy, Mayor of Rochester

Auberger will inform GPD of this decision at 12:30PM today. The Greece Town Board is trying to schedule a "special meeting" to approve this selection.

STORY

13WHAM News reports that Baxter lives in Ogden.

SCATS ~~ Looks like Auberger is doing business as usual, wasting time & wasting money. There was a meeting just last night. Can he even pretend this wasn't all set and ready to be approved then? I think not! But I digress. Our D-Y-S-F-U-N-C-T-I-O-N-A-L Town Board won't question it ;)

Another of Duffy's worshipers comes to Greece PD.

Another Rahn, well, not exactly, but I'll not be looking for much improvement.

Finally the Town of Greece has made a positive decision for the Greece Police Dept.Faced with the past problems Todd Baxter was the only candidate with all the necessary credentials to restore the faith and trust that is so desperately needed within the police dept.

This seems like deja vu to me.... another cop from RPD.... another cop who lives in Ogden......

UPDATE

YNNews reports that he won't take over as chief until Feb. 8th, but they don't explain the reason for the delay. Maybe he has to give RPD notice ...?

Excuse me but did we not get Pignato and Joseph from the RPD also!

I saw him on the tv. He seemed cocky and arrogant.

Well........I am willing to give the man a chance. I don't think there is anyone out there that can trump Rahn or god forbid, Gerry Phelan!!! Baxter knows he will be under intense scrutiny from the citizen groups in Greece and the press. He was hired to keep cleaning the mess up and he will have to do this under public scrutiny. I don't think a person would be willing to take on this job of our corrupt police department if he had skeletons in his closet or was not a good commander in RPD.

To 5:38PM ~~ I just heard on Ch. 10's news that he underwent an intensive background check and that he's squeeky clean Hopefully, he will live up to his own expectations.

I am in law enforcement. I am not in rpd but I am friends with several people who are. They are disappointed that he is leaving. Greece is extremely lucky they are getting a TRUE professional.

Scats when are you going to report about the new EEOC case against GCSD. I would have thought Dave Ferrington Would have reported this to you. Are you ready for a cup of coffee yet?

Cocky and arrogant? No wonder Assberger picked him. They must be alot alike.

To 7:18PM ~~ First of all, I'm not a "reporter." I'm a blogger, a citizen volunteer. Secondly, I don't know Mr. Ferington, so maybe that's why he hasn't reported to me. Thirdly, I'm not much of a coffee drinker.

Fourthly, I'll report on it as soon as you send me the info :)

What's the hold-up on YOUR end? You have my email addy, don't you?

I didn't see any mention of how much Baxter will get paid. Has this been decided yet?

I'm excited; I'm pumped; I'm ready for the new year.

I congratulate the the people of Mass.

I'm excided by the Bill's choice of a new coach.

And now I am excided for Greece and our new police chief. He impressed me at the news conference and a check with two Roc. police officers gave him very high marks.

Looks like were off to a good start in 2010.

But can the Greece school board be as objective as needed when they choose a new leader? NOT SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT PROSPECT!

Not sure about that good start
At the last town board meeting Auberger stated that the Greece Police Department is one of the best in the county if not the state. Seem like the same old delusions.

A little realism might be in order here.

7:28 - Remember that "cocky" "arrogant" and "cop" are synonymous terms. :)

As a resident of Ogden, I would like to thank the good citizens for Greece for taking away Rahn's car (he actually held on to it for a short period after his suspension). I no longer have to wonder why he slowly and eerily cruises the streets of Spencerport.

I have congratulated Ferrington and encouraged him to move to Greece. I think he will before next school year. Lets help the guy get the department back in good graces with the community.

To 10:27AM ~~ I do not understand your comment. Ferington is on the BOE. This thread is about the new police chief.

Here is the question I have: How was the Town able to reach Captain Baxter at #9 off the civil service list? I thought you are supposed to select from the top 3 scoring candidates. The county website shows some candidates signed off, but not enough to get to #9

Also, the Chiefs test the Town used was for Fairport and East Rochester. There is a "class system for these tests and those smaller Towns are not in the same class as required for Greece.

So Im left wondering how they got around those requirements. This isn't a knock on Baxter, he may be great, but it would be refreshing if the Town followed some of the state laws that are out there...
