Monroe County Police Chiefs Don't Want Greece's Top Job

“I think politics plays a large role in things that have been done and continue to be done in Greece. That being said, I have no interest in the current position." ~~ Brockport Chief Dan Varrenti

Town of Greece receives five resumes after sending out six canvassing letters.

Acting Greece Chief Brian Uhrmacher, New York State Police Captain Mike Cerretto and Webster Lt. Sal Simonetti are interested in the position.

STORY

SCATS ~~ Surprise, surprise! Who could have guessed that politics would play a role?

HooRAH to the Brockport Police Chief who has the stones to say it like it really is in Greece. This place is rotten to the core with politics. We will never get a top notch police chief with little Augie in control. We will get stuck with the bottom feeders who apply. And police corruption will continue.

With a town the size of many cities in the U.S. I guess I am left wondering WHY we have not generated any job interest from the police brass across the country. We certainly pay enough. I guess the stupidvisor wants to keep his top cop close to home. Politics as usual.

Dan lives in Greece he ought to know.

Varrenti would tell Auggie to go to hell in his first week. He's not afraid of anyone. The only person he's committed to is the people he serves. He did a great job in Irondequoit. He's way to good for Greece.

Varrenti has all the credentials. A master's degree, experience and most of all integrity. He would have never stood a chance in Greece. He's way to qualified and honest to work here.

SCATS once again bad info as usual. 11 have applied, 5 have already been a chief somewhere. Check the news.....

To 6:16AM ~~ "As usual?" LMAO! Nice try :)

In your rush to nitpick, YOU didn't check the source (13WHAM) I referenced. Had you done so, you would have seen it clearly stated: "The Town of Greece has received five resumes from candidates throughout the state."

I report based on info provided from a variety of sources. I suggest you call Ch 13 and complain. They are the only people who can satisfy you.

Christine -- please put this up -- it is very important.

Varenti is a big cry baby. He only cares about himself. Look at the bottom of this story -- he sued the village of brockport because they tried to terminate his overly generous employment contract. He supervises how many officers in that podunk village??

He's also buddies with Merritt Rahn -- that should tell you all you need to know!

To 1:43PM ~~ Who is Christine??

BLOGGER truncated your web address. Let's try this LINK

1:43 - That is old news, over three years old. It says he was promised compensation that was stopped which constitutes breach of contract. That doesn't make him a "crybaby." By the way how do you know he and Rahn are pals? I bet Rahn knew most every cop around here.

"I bet Rahn knew most every cop around here."
Isn't that why they call him Don Rahn?

Who wouldn't sue someone for breach of contract. At least he stood up for what he believed. Obviously Christine doesn't know him very well. He was with Irondequoit before he left for Brockport and he used to run a drug task force. Look up his name on the web. He's all over the place. All the chiefs know each other. That doesn't make him palls with Rahn just an acquaintance. It seems you do about as much homework as Auggie.

I don't know Varrenti but one thing is for sure. He's smart enough to not want the job.

Well one thing is for sure Brockport is certainly podunk. Anyone who agrees on something and signs a contract just to pull it the next day is podunk.

""Varrenti is allowed to collect a pension of $47,000 while still collecting a salary of $113,000,"

$113k for BROCKPORT Chief! But he's really pulling down $160K. Oh ya, Varrenti cares about the people he serves alright. ROFLMAO!!!

He doesn't want it because he's making more money in little ol' Brockport!

Obviously you don't know what you are talking about. Rahn made about 130K. Anyone who takes this job, except Urmacker, will retire from where they are and will collect a pension to and make a lot more than 160K.

This certainly does not speak well for the elected officials in Brockport who allow this type of thing to happen.
To quote another poster on this site - sounds like a lack of "respect" by elected officials toward taxpayers - unfortunatly it not just Brockport now is it?

Why do we keep talking about this. Cereto is going to be the next chief. He's wanted this job for years and is best friend with Auggie. This was a done deal before it ever got started.

10:05 I never heard of this guy until recently. How do you know he's buddies with Auberger?Do you work in local government or law enforcement??

You got to be kidding. I'm a firefighter. Everyone that knows anything knows he's going to be the next chief.
