So let me get this straight ... Staff smell smoke. They tell kids to get their coats BEFORE "evacuating" the building. Someone calls the FD. District Office phones parents with a message telling them the kids got their coats before evacuating BUT the media gets told the kids went to the West Ridge Community Center? Gee, if it were me, I'd pull the alarm and get those kids out the door ASAP while making sure buses were being sent to house them. But heck, following the emergency evacuation plan just in case it was a "real fire" is so extreme ;)

Gives a new meaning to school-of-choice - you can ignore protocol and choose how and where to evacuate.

This is why they get so little parental cooperation. They jerk people around using the "PC" information in place of reality then expect to get support.

Geez........when i was in school and had PRACTICE fire drills we were NEVER allowed to collect our coats even in the dead of winter!!! The teachers had stop watches and each class was timed at how quickly we evacuated the building.

The whole public educational system is dysfunctional beyond belief. We have nut jobs with no common sense what so ever running every level of our district. Good grief!

Good point! On that same topic, I spent awhile speaking with a Greece school bus driver today. I asked him about the number of kids missing from his routes (sick). He said he's never seen anything like it before, and is actually running into problems with parents of young kids not being at bus stops...because the bus is getting there 5-10 minutes early (ie. not nearly as many kids getting on/off the bus). He claimed that all of the other drivers are speaking about the same issue. I told him the district claimed attendance is basically unchanged from last year, to which he responded, "This district is full of s#$@".

To 9:58PM ~~ I assumed as much, especially after we had a local health dept. outright lie about two deaths this week, saying the people were otherwise healthy ... they think we can't handle the truth then they get perplexed about why no one pays attention to them. I've seen no indications of any updates at all to the GCSD website about H1N1 since the original postings early in the fall. Very typical.
