Greece is in denial about the severity of swine flu on the numbers absent. My neighbor's kids both report nearly half their classes are missing from school and the number of teachers out is also high. Nothing unusual about that, right?

I have heard that the district will not close, no matter what the absences are. Are there any guidelines from the health dept. or does the district just do what they want to do with no one to answer too? My child had it and it was terrible. There is no way the schools can keep it from spreading by staying open. Everyone I talk to tells me the same thing, the building absences are huge, both staff and students. But again, what can any of us do about it?

So should the entire city of Rochester shut down? Its not only in the Greece Schools. How long should we shut everything down for? Until the flu season is over in 4 months? They are predicting it will peak again in the Spring so maybe everyone should stay home from work and school all over the city until say maybe May? You are acting like greece is the only school district that kids are absent from....there are just as many healthy people out there, so all those people and kids should stay home because not everyone is, the smart thing is for people to stay home when they are sick.

To 10PM ~~ No one has suggested "shutting everything down." However, a little bit of honesty on the part of GCSD would be a good thing. Their stance that there's no spike in absences when most other districts in the area are seeing large numbers missing school defies logic. I agree that sick people should STAY HOME and keep their germs to themselves ... there goes the highly coveted "perfect attendance awards."

If there are that many people absent it means that the morons of Greece are actually paying attention and listening to what they are supposed to for once.

To 8:21AM ~~ I'm not sure WHICH morons you were referring to. There's SO many! Pushing perfect attendance awards is something the paid morons do ;)

Add the lice break out at one school. It is so bad my kids have been asked to bring in garbage bags to place coat and back packs in...because it is spreading through the school.
