To Scats:
Yes First Bible is doing our annual Candidates' Night, on Sunday, October 25 at 6 PM. All the local candidates have been invited in Greece and several other towns. We put out a questionnaire on various issues, and publish their answers in a book that we give out that night. There's a reception that follows, where people can meet and talk with the candidates.   10/02/2009 9:17 PM

I hope the Democrats attend. It'll be interesting to hear their opinion of prayers before town meetings. This is done at the County, state and federal levels but those supporting the democrat team want to end it. Don't know what they have against catholics, baptists, people of jewish faith, wiccans, etc., etc., etc.

To 5:25PM ~~ I don't know that people want to end it altogether, but after attending a few meetings recently, it definitely needs to be changed. The generic prayer you might witness elsewhere is NOT what is offered in Greece. I'm Christian, but I felt uncomfortable with the prayers given in Town Hall. They are much too specific for my tastes.

To 5:25: Few democrats will come because they don't want to sign the waiver agreeing that the earth is only 4000 years old.

To 9:52am:

To what "waiver" are you referring?

Disregard 9:52 Graehaven. He/she is just taking a cheap shot at people of faith. Go read what people like this say about churchgoers in the D&C stories about prayer. Pretty nasty and malicious. I hope 9:52's comments aren't meant to get us ready for what will happen if Democrats take control of town government this November.

To 5:17PM ~~ If you want him to really see something that's "nasty and malicious" why don't you suggest reading Morons Ranting and their spewings about Moscato, Maloney & others. It doesn't get any more venomous than that.

Way to disregard an insult to people of faith SCATS. Normally you respond to commenter's personal insults. Very telling that you let that one go.

SCATS said...

To 8:31PM ~~ You're correct that I normally respond to PERSONAL insults. No person was named in this instance. So Sherlock, exactly what does that tell you?

As 9:52, I apologize for the snideness of my remark above.

I am, however, uncomfortable with ANY church hosting a candidates night, especially one that seeks so strongly to assert its particular beliefs on the policies and agenda of government, including the schools.

I am a regular churchgoer and count myself as a devout "person of faith," but like the majority of Christians, I believe in scientific principles like carbon dating, and yes, evolution.

To 10:58AM ~~ I thought your original comment made a lot of sense given what is going on at the Greece Town Board meetings. I, too, am Christian. But I'm VERY uncomfortable with the prayers offered at these meetings. In fact, the first time I attended one where such a prayer was given, I was SHOCKED!

Let's hope the Democratic candidates make it perfectly clear at the First Bible candidates night that they don't support having a prayer before the meeting. That is, unless they do. Anyone know?

Dan Maloney finally announced that he doesn't support the Walmart project at that neighborhood candidate's night. Maybe he'll announce his stance on prayer too. Hopefully it won't take as long to find out.

To 9:20PM ~~ With all of the more important problems facing this town, I rather doubt that prayer will be among the top half dozen issues people most care about so close to the election. We need to figure out how we're going to pay for all these lawsuits & scandals Auberger knew nothing about ;)

@10:58 - then you shouldn't go to it.
