Brian Caterino says:

I taped the board meeting, It was an utter farce perhaps 10 minutes long. Besides me there were perhaps 2 people at the meeting.

I did not see any canditates or any local democrats.

Where are you guys????

To Coffee ~~ Sources tell me that the stomach flu has hit hard within the remaining rank & file at GPD, causing our acting chief to have to send a replacement to warm his chair tonight. Since the entire event was so short, Uhrmacher's seat barely got dusted. I'm hoping Caterino plays it in slo-mo when it hits Ch12. We might need a replay.

To Brian Caterino ~~ No candidates? Geesh! Maybe they were out "vogue'ing" about Greece tonight. I hear it's the latest thing to be caught doing ;)

Maybe the Greece Dems are putting together a "bathing suit edition" for their mailer lol

To 7:48PM ~~ With that thought, my mind's eye just went blind!

do you think it is a blue flu

To 8:31PM ~~ Why would it be that? Are they having some sort of unresolved contract or union related issues?

How could candidates for town office NOT be at this meeting?

To 9:24PM ~~ The meeting reportedly lasted for all of 10 minutes. Sounds like it was a waste of time for anyone to be there.

Hopefully the Dem candidates were out knocking on doors, you know, campaigning! Why waste an evening at town board?

Maybe if people showed up for the meetings they would know what a lack of democracy there is in Greece. Not once has there been a discussion on any issue and no board member has ever voted nay. I guess they are not very inquisitive and all think exactly alike. It is sad that the meetings take 10 minutes and that no one shows up. What are Greece residents sheep?

To 3:16AM ~~ Maybe people stopped going because:
1 - they saw it was like talking to a wall whenever someone addressed the board;
2 - they saw that there's no discussion of any issue ... not ever;
3 - they saw that the votes are all rubber stamps.

Very similar to BOE meetings of the past ;)

3:16 It is the same at school board meetings. A handful of the same people unless there are looming program cuts then the special interest parent groups appear. Coffee

Are there things on the town agenda that people are against? It seems to me that if you oppose an item, you would attend and speak out against it. If you don't oppose anything, then what is the concern?

People here have said they see the agendas ahead of time and that they don't like the pace of the meetings but don't list the specific items they oppose.

My point is, since you don't oppose what's on the agendas, are you simply mad because a meeting lasts say 20 minutes versus an hour?

I've seen televised meetings in the past where people spoke against something or asked questions about a project being presented that were answered by the owner. Lately, and I may have missed some meetings, there's no questions about agenda topics and little to no questions about projects coming into town.

Please don't beat me up for asking but it seems that your problem isn't related to what they are voting on. I wouldn't expect to see all candidates there because they're out working, but the people they send to yell at the board aren't showing up either.

I'm not claiming to support Maloney or Auberger. I'm just trying to understand.

To 4:52PM ~~ The complete agenda isn't available until you get to the meeting, so you can't plan ahead to address the Town Board on something you might be opposed to. When you get there and pick one up, you'll see that the person who will move and the person who will second the motion is already printed on the agenda. Efficient ... if not illegal.

Sometimes, portions of the agenda are online earlier in the day on the day of the meeting, but they are often missing little details (sarcasm intended) ... like the swearing in of a new council person, or the swearing in of a new police officer.

Typically, since there is no discussion at all during these meetings, it's not possible to get a grasp on some of the items, because the agenda explains nothing. An example I saw recently was a vote to renew permission for Nothnagle Realtors to detonate explosives as needed in the Town of Greece ... I have NO CLUE why they would need to do that and I've never heard of them doing it, but apparently it's an issue for Nothnagle. Interesting, huh?

You see, the lack of discussion among Board members combined with the refusal to respond to community members allows them to whiz through 19 agenda items, the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer all in 10 minutes, which is exactly what they did Tuesday night.
