Did the Teacher Candidates Protest Today?

A blogger asked: "... I can't tell from the picture but does anyone know if the other GTA union candidates were there too demanding more money and benefits?" 9/01/2009 4:58 PM

SCATS ~~ I think it's a reasonable question. Hopefully Ms. Meleca-Voigt And Mr. Nielson will respond directly :)

From the size of the crowd it looks like all the teachers were there. Don't expect someone to tattle on their "brothers."

Thank you channel 13. WHAM 13 reported that all Greece teachers continue to have 90% of their health care premiums paid by the district and that the only teachers not eligible for pay raises under the existing contract are those all ready earning $83,000.

I still have neighbors that don't believe me when I tell them teachers can earn $83,000 for their 185 day school year. I sure wish this would also so show up in print media!

It will be interesting to see where the town candidates stand on this seeing as they are all union.

The near $200 million being spent on education is certainly a big part of our economy (all taxes).
I see Mr. Maloney is having a meeting on the economy and it will be interesting to see if he and the other union supporters feel this near $200 is being spent in a beneficial way.

I just got my bill yesterday and the first thing i asked was = what am i getting for my money?

To 6:58AM ~~ While I understand your questions, I hope you realize that the Greece Supervisor has about as much to do with the size of the school district's budget as they do the color of the cheese on the moon.

This is not a slam, but I think it is safe to say that there are anons here representing both campaign teams. Whether the candidates themselves choose to not comment here directly (I'd expect the same reaction SCATS if they don't) their people here should be able to let us know.

There's nothing to hide so it shouldn't be an issue. Hey, you are what you are.

To 12:01PM ~~ I'm not sure I understand your comments. You want campaigners for either side (Dem or Rep) to identify themselves when they comment, is that what you meant?

If it's anything like the comments about candidates, I think it will likely dissolve into attacks on the individual campaigners. In the case of the Republicans, many of these folks are already well known from past efforts or offices held. In the case of the Democrats, I suspect many are relative unknowns just volunteering to help with something they believe in. I'm not sure the who the campaigners are matters. Why would it?

No, not at all. I'm saying that if these two candidates choose not to respond to this post, then their anonymous commenters here can share if they in fact attended or not on their behalf. They would know, and I don't think it has to be a big secret if the candidates did protest. If they want more money and benefits, so be it. They have a right to their beliefs. Just don't hide it when it is politically expedient.

With the endorsement of the gta why Scats have you not asked if Moscato was part of the protest?

Like many things in Amnerica work and workers have become degraded and debased.
People work harder in the US for less than inalmost any industial conutry.
While the gap betweenthe rich and the poor grows in this country, the corporate rich are literally plundering the country and getting bailed out while failing way worse than any teacher you can name. Any one who seeks to organize for better living conditions or fair wages is heaped with scorn as stealing our money.

The self hatred involved in this is stunning.

Your posting sounds like nothing more than democratic "talking points" with no substance.
Forinstance when you use the term "better living conditions and fair wages" what does that mean?

To 1:58PM ~~ Why would he participate in the protest? He doesn't work for GCSD, isn't a teacher and as I recall fought to hold the line on the GTA contract when he served on the BOE ;)

"better living conditions or fair wages?"

What the hell are you talking about? Do these teachers work 16 hour days in a sweatshop for 75 cents an hour?

Starting salary is $35,000 and tops out at $83,000. Health insurance coverage is 90%. Job for life tenure plus benefits after retirement.

I can't believe you have to endure such inhumane working and post-working conditions!

Exactly how much better to you want it on our dime?

Enjoy what you have (which many people in the private sector do not) and do your job (and be happy you have one).

@3:09 - Democratic and Union talking points.

Any leads yet on this SCATS?

So what's the deal with these two? They haven't responded to a simple question in several days. Please don't let your request go ignored by these two SCATS. I know you're on it.

To 9:08PM ~~ If they don't answer soon, I'll have them water-boarded! :D

Any suspended cops interested in making a few $$ on the side?

Just kidding!
