Auberger Using Fund Balance To "Cut Taxes" In Election Year

Tax rates to fall 2.41% despite $1.6 million spending increase (this means your taxes will go up more in future years!)

$3.2 million of fund balance to be used (this means he will finally spend some of the money you were over-taxed by in the past!)

"This is a hard-times budget, reflecting the current economic conditions not only in Greece, but around the entire state." ~~ John Auberger (Translation ~~ I'm getting worried I might not win the election!)

"To paraphrase a popular union leader and former president, 'That's the people's money, not the government's. Give it back.'" ~~ Dan Maloney (Translation ~~ I know where the money came from & I want it returned! (Dan quoted Ronald Reagan))

70% of budget allocated for public safety & public works

Public hearing on budget on Nov. 17th @6PM

SCATS ~~ Awww! John got a sudden soft spot in his heart for library funding? Not really. Have you seen the cost of books lately?

Does it sound like he is using the accounting principles of Odyssey PTA? Stash away money and then spend it when you feel a crunch coming on.

To 10:58AM ~~ That's an astute observation! I hadn't thought of it that way. That makes Auberger's accounting principles "high-schoolish."

Is there any way to get a copy of the budget that is detailed,. That way we can check it out for ourselves

To 1:31PM ~~ I don't know if you can get a copy to keep (they might want to charge you 25 cents/pg under FOIL), but I think they put some copies in the library that can be reviewed there. I suggest you call Town Hall and ask where & when you can examine a copy of the proposed budget.

Uncle Auggieburger counts on the 65 and over crowd to get him into office one more time. Word is starting to get through to even his staunchest supporters that Greece's problems are largely Jack's creation. Using reserve funds to cut the tax rate is a shell game used by the school district to get budgets passed. The problem for Auggieburger is that this game is getting old. Even the folks with dementia are getting a clue.

If I read the article right we have been paying higher taxes than need be so we can have a lower tax rate in an election year.
Sounds like Albany.
Sounds like Washington.

Did new companies who may want to move into the area know this?
Did other town board members know this?
Did other administrators know this?

There are people in this town who must think (I) this lonly taxpayer is nothing but a puppet on a string. They pull the string and I cough up money when THEY want it, when it benefits THEM.

At least we'll have had a tax cut for whatever reason. If Maloney and the democrats take over, it's tax hike city for the next 4 years.

How will you support Maloney then?

Lowering taxes in a year Democrats at the local, state and federal level are raising them is actually a good thing.

To 9:06 & 10:25AM ~~ How is it a "tax cut" when WE GAVE THEM THE MONEY YEARS AGO?

Is anybody following these disgusting campaign fliers Auberger is sending out.

They are more attempts to make Dan Maloney seems illegitimate (any pattern here with the national "birthers" by way of making representative of some stereotyped category than a reasonable debate.

stop being a hypocrite. maloney's run a strictly negative political campaign. he shouldn't be whining that he be the only one allowed to take shots. grow up. it's about time auberger fought back.. dan's had free reign to act negative while others actually have to work. not everyone can be a union boss.

To 10:35AM ~~ If that's your BEST defense of Jack's tantrum-style behavior, then I guess he really is running scared ;)
