Evidence Of How Politics Controls Local Media ...

Since we're talking about news management, try this on for size.

Meaghan McDermott of the D&C canvassed all board members regarding their decision to terminate the Superintendent's contract at the end of June 2010. One person confirmed this fact and was told by Meaghan that now that she had a confirmed source, she would do a story the following day. It never happened as advertised two weeks ago.

It now appears that the story was killed by a member, along with Steve and Roger, of the Greece Chamber of Commerce who just happens to be a person at the D&C in charge of what makes it into print and what doesn't.

This story is now DOA as the reporter is gone until August 24.

This is another reason why the D&C itself will be DOA within a year. We can only hope. 8/11/2009 11:27 AM

SCATS ~~ I disagree about the story being DOA. I can confirm that it is true that recent BOE discussions concerned replacing the Supt. and not renewing his contract. Numerous reliable sources have shared the details ;)

Meghan hasn't done a very good job lately anyhow. Lots of wrong info in her stories. She should check what she's told, but that would take actual reporting skills and "work."

Sounds like more closed door meetings for the boe. I can't wait until the Comptroller pays a return visit to Greece. I'm keeping track of their infractions of open meeting laws, ignoring their own policies and thumbing their noses at the law in general. Of course, they do this while spending tons of $$$$ on lawyers!!!!

Good point 1:52-you discribed SCATS perfectly!

To 4:15PM ~~ I suspect you are either the reporter in question or one of the people trying to do CYA regarding the BOE business discussed on the BLOG related to the Supt's potential departure.

For the record, I do not present myself as a reporter, never have. What I post is nearly always taken from other identified media sources, including the D&C and the local TV networks. If you have issues with the facts they present, feel free to contact them and complain. Otherwise, you're just shooting blanks at one of the messengers ;)

I believe that we had a similar discussion concerning a reporter named "Meg" a few months back here. I seem to recall that she was being accused of being "owned" by the district powers, which was evidenced by her blowing off of the statistics involved with "lottery" schools vs. students race(s). Is this the same "Meg"? What was the whole story back then? If this is her (again), aren't we starting to see a pattern?

People like 4:15 hope SCATS will just disappear, because the blog presents a fly in the ointment for the powers that be. They aren't used to having a loose cannon in the community (no offence SCATS!) to deal with. They should get over it. With blogs, texting, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and other high tech methods to communicate in use by the masses, the average man on the street can now be heard. And he doesn't even need boardroom spying devices to learn whats really going on! lol

I've told you numerous times before, I post here only under my name.

I can never promise when a story will run.

Way to go! Thanks for outing those with loose lips anon.
I hope they get removed from the board.
Talking out of exec sessions is a big no no!
I'm writing a complaint to the Commissioner right now!

To Meaghan ~~ Don't give me that parental tone. You can't prove what you say anyway.

To 9:34PM ~~ Better keep your panties on! If anything, the BOE should be "outed" for the ridiculous number of closed door (illegal) meetings they hold. Example: the one where they apparently decided to hire a law firm but didn't vote on the idea until weeks and $2000+ later ;)

THIS THREAD IS CLOSED.
