BOE Members Easier To Contact Via Email Now

But are they tracking the online movements of those who use this means to contact them? (see comment inside)

BoardDocs Page on GCSD Website Provides Email Tool

Just Click on BOE Member's Mail Icon (column on right side of page)

SCATS ~~ While I think it's great they are making themselves more readily accessible, I certainly hope it is their intent to actually provide a satisfying response to those who contact them with inquiries.

It will also make it that much easier for them to track the email writer's ip addresses as they navigate the Greece central site and the town site or whatever other site they choose. Remember when they track it is for marketing purposes only (right) and they can tell which site you just came from and which you went to directly after. It may not tell them your real name if you don't put that in the email but it can track that particular ip address movements.

To 9:50AM ~~ OMG you make an excellent point! On that same note, I've also heard that the computers the district gives to BOE members to use tracks their every keystroke!

9:50 You're scaring me!
I don't know much about this computer spying stuff. So now I'm wondering, if I go to the boe email and use it to send someone a note, could the district track other email I send to other people, like my co-workers, after that?

Not that I know of. But they could tell it was you visiting their web site after your mail was sent if you visit from the computer that you sent the email from. (or the web site of the town if they collaborate with them). And then they could see which web sites you were coming from to get to their site and which web site you went to after you left their web site. The tracking goes no further than that.
BUT If the email you send is a forward it could have a history that they will be able to track. They will also find it interesting who else emailed you. And if you use your work email they will know of course where you work.

The Greece school district's leaders are paranoid just like Auberger's group. They want to know everything, control everything. Like scats said before, its dysfunctional. And so totally Greece. Look where all this control got GPD!

CAn they hire that GEICO money clip to follow us and spy on us?

I always feel like Somebody's watching me?

The district has installed a new spyware on all the computers district wide.It tracks every key stroke on every computer.Employees have already been warned that Big Brother is indeed watching.Such trusting souls.

I have a REAL PROBLEM with GCSD tracking BOE members. They are NOT employees. They are elected officials. If I were one, I'd use my own PC. And watch over my shoulder.....

Making people think that they are being watched is as good as actually watching them. There is a reason that "prop" cameras are effective.

Rumors of computer surveillance are as effective as actually doing so. The fact is, unless you're a "problem" in other areas, there is little time to dig up dirt on you. However, once the digging starts, "watch out".

There, THAT should keep the rumor mill working overtime. ;)

It is not a rumor that there are many tracking systems available for anyone that has a website and wants to see who is visiting and how often. People create websites in many cases to sell something or a service and they have to make sure they are reaching their target audience. This is not a myth.
It is surprising that you didn't know that. It's just good to know that once you email someone they have your ip address and can then see how often that ip visits a particular website if they are the owner. And they can see where that ip visited before and visited right after. Just be careful where you visit right before or after you visit a website that has you ip address and your identity from an email. You might not want them to know what sites you are frequenting.

Is there a link to the finance committee?

SCATS said...

To 6:59AM ~~ I think the Finance Committee is in charge of the "missing link" maybe :)

To 6:08AM ~~ Are you an advocate of secret recording devices in the BOE meeting room too? I think GCSD has NO business monitoring where visitors to their website come from or go to afterwards. We're not talking about employees. We're talking about parents and community members. They aren't "a business." They are a taxpayer funded public/govt entity.

it`s data collection and even if it is creepy it is not illegal. but those programs that track where you were and where you are going - the where you are going part is from clicking on a link. if you type in a new address in the address bar, it doesn`t work. Anyways, whenever you use an online submission form or send an email the data has the potential to be collected. If you want to get around it - go to the library, bring your laptop to a wifi cafe or see if your isp will give you a new ip address (or renew it yourself if you can).

To 11:26AM ~~ You're right. It IS creepy. I don't care if it is legal. I'd like to know WHY the district feels it needs to do this kind of thing. Like I said, it's NOT a business and it is TAXPAYER FUNDED. I think it's a questionable practice in an ethical sense. At least post a warning on the website: "GCSD plays Big Brother by tracking where you came from and where you're going to."

Now that I know they do this, I think I'll start visiting some eyebrow-raising sites before and after I visit the GCSD page ... this could be fun! :D

6:21 how does someone with out a court order get my identity by me emailing them? And if this is the case in Greece I sugest we all sign up for proxy servers.
