Greece Town Board Opts For Time-Warner Over Edu-Cable

Auberger & Pals Get "Earful" First;
Residents Complain About
Lack Of Public Hearing;
Lack of Public Discussion on PEG TV Choice

SCATS ~~ This reminds me of another group ... oh yes! The Greece BOE!

Let us not forget the meetings that took place on this item over the past few years.
ALL BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
Included would be school board meetings with Time Warner on the use of the Olympia studio - again
BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

Wait a second, I'm confused. You're complaining about not getting to voice your opinion but people showed up at a meeting last night and spoke at a public forum? That doesn't make any sense. Was the meeting last night closed to the public or were people allowed to attend and speak? I'm just glad this is finally over with.

To 7:30AM ~~ I received an email today asking me to remind folks of this: "You might remind your readers that any closed door discussions on the use of the Olympia tv studio to replace Educable was done in a galaxy far away and a long time ago (to usurp a phrase!). The current BOE stifled with a NO vote any use of the Olympia studio to replace Educable over the protests of the several town supervisors."

HA! It's hardly over. As a matter of fact, I think it's just beginning!

Jackie's arrogance reached a new high. He's met so many people of official status. Now he'll get to meet more!

Can't wait for this one to hit.

To 8:05AM ~~ I'm told last night's "forum" was the usual time residents are given at a Town Board meeting followed by moving said item up on the agenda for a FAST adoption with no discussion despite many folks begging our elected officials to "do the right thing" ... hold a public hearing and have an actual discussion.

So glad it's done. Bye bye Brian!

Dream on 8:13. A state audit of the town's use of TW's collected fees is coming soon.

Anonymous said...

I can hear the shredders starting to run in "I am him"'s office to obliterate any chance of learning where the cable money went. For $2250 a day, can those retired troopers walk down the hall and stop it?

Anonymous said...

They'll never catch up. The last time the town had an audit by the Comptrollers office was 1990!

Can't wait til they get to Greece for an audit. Maybe now we can get some refunds for the over-assessments we obviously paid to compensate for the breaks Kodak got!

Not to mention Educable can now get paid for all the back pay they're owed!

Anonymous said...

It's over, educable was a great resource back in the day and did provide a valuable service. However, technology has been updated drastically over the yers and that particular facility has not. Time Warner has the money and facilities to keep up with those changes on a regular basis. If it is going to provide the same public acess services then I think it is not necessarily a bad thing. It is time to let this whole thing go, it really seems to be a done deal.

Anonymous said...

Hey 9:46. Once Edu-Cable gets paid for the last 2 years they'll be able to update their equipment.

Like they say in baseball..... it ain't over until it's over! THIS ain't over.

Anonymous said...

TW isn't providing any service, it's only "drop off your tape to us downtown and we'll run it some time." After 2 years of dodging and weaving and studying I think Augie coulda come up with something better for the money I'm paying for this on my cable bill. At the very least he could pretend to listen when people say they want a voice in what is chosen. If this is how he behaves in an election year, when does anybody ever get Augie to listen?

Anonymous said...

Thank God for SCATS!! Where's the other media on this? No reporters at the meeting last night?

There were a number of speakers who spoke for almost an hour and who requested hearings on this issue and criticized the town policy on access and its openness. Most of not all in the audience supported the speakers.
The town then simply moved the items up so as to get us out and after some untruthful statements by I am he voted without any discussion or comment. It was insulting and was experienced as insulting. The audience made its displeasure known to the board members.
This is not exactly what our founders had in mind when they formed our democracy. Democracy is not the election of a dictator who does what he wants with the consent of a rubber stamp town board One definition of dictatorship holds that when the leader believes he is the will of the people. That ‘s what we have here. We don’t actually have representatives on the town board but just puppets.
To have a democracy there has to be a two way dialogue. Citizen participation means the ability to participate in all aspects of the process. That is includes setting the agenda and the terms of the discussion. Citizenship is not simply the passive right to be listened to by an autocrat and be dismissed. That's a sham. When we elect someone we do not check our rights to be active participants and to have a say in government at the door.
That was one of the shameful exercises by an elected body that I have seen. It would be more fitting in the politburo.

I had the misfortune of attending last night's meeting of the Greece Town Board. I went because friends at work laugh when I tell them I live in Greece and what a joke town government is here. I've lived in Greece for the past three years and it was my first meeting. What a well-choreographed farce I was exposed to.

In the public forum, speaker after speaker criticized an agenda item concerning public access television which would apparently strip the current provider of that responsibility. All speakers asked for a public hearing that was never held to be held before the board took action on the item so that the public could be heard on this switch to Time Warner.

I watched as the Supervisor and several board members yawned their way through those presentations. The last speaker made a passionate plea asking the board to step back, take another look, hold a public hearing and open lines of communication with the present cable provider, set aside their personal issues and work out a compromise.

His and all other speakers pleas had no impact whatsoever because, as if on cue, the supervisor, Mr. Auberger, pulled an "In Your Face, you Peons", moved the agenda item which was number 12 to the front of the agenda and like trained dogs, all board members voted yes to move forward with no discussion of any kind.

I stayed and was amazed at the swiftness they moved through the rest of the agenda. What I witnessed was a well-orchestrated meeting that lasted 15 minutes.

No wonder this town is in trouble and the laughing stock of Monroe County. I did not see democracy in action and you know what, I have no sympathy for the residents of this town because we voted a dictator and four stooges into office.

What a disgrace!

Brian - there is always YouTube. It's free too! lol

He who laughs first...

The best is yet to come. Get used to reading about Greece in the news. The rats are jumping ship fast, and wading into the waters of those passionate speakers to make their confessions and provide the necessary proof to make certain that more than a few will be sharing a room in the hotel "Joseph Schwab Pignato".

A new day is dawning in Greece. "Amen" (now that's funny!)

Even Jer-Bear! HAHAHAHAHA! It's nice when the family tree bears such rich fruit!

Ok, so a small handful of caterino's supporters showed up and did exactly what was expected of them. Just for kicks, out of a town of 100,000 people, what % showed up to raise hell? Must have been several hundred if this issue was really important.

Anonymous said...

It was THOUSANDS! Standing room only with a line all the way to Ridge Road!!!

Honestly - do you believe that ANYONE who lives in Greece anymore wants to go to the Town Toilet to see Johnnie Boy? They know that ALL of the so called "heads" don't give a dammin.

They're going to wait til November, and the polling sites will be standing room only with the lines clear to Hilton to the West, Irondequoit to the east, and will, at 9:00 PM, pronounce in large and clear volume, "Ding, Dong, the witch is dead, the wicked witch, the witch is dead!"

Can't wait!

SCATS said...

To 2:44PM ~~ I'll bet it was a much larger percentage than has shown up to complain about the police dept :)

Look where community silence on that issue got us ;)

Anonymous said...

2:54 is absolutely correct, the people in this town know that it is futile to go to a Town Board meeting to voice your concerns about anything. They don't care. They will do whatever they please whenever they please and look where it has got us.

When I mention to anyone that I live in Greece they invariably say, "Oh no, what's the latest scandal this week, ha ha". Frankly, I'm sick of it as I am sure a lot of people are and I know that this year, for the first time in many years, they are ready to voice their opinion of Auberger and Company at the voting booth. I can't believe what they did last night.

With all the corruption that is going on in this town's government, they had the nerve to stick it in the face of the citizens who came out to protest against another corrupt and illegal move on their part. They not only didn't listen, they moved it up on the agenda and voted them down just to show them they could do it. This is an obscenity.

The public needs to stand up and not "say" but "show" enough is enough. Call Albany and demand an audit of the town finances. I would also suugest residents make the matter a poison pill to Time Warner. Cancel your cable TV and go with say Dish TV. Let them know why and let them know that you and others are demanding Albany look into Time Warners business dealings within the Monroe County and Western Ny areas. After all, these are the same people who wished to jack broadband rates recently in our community. There are many many people in Albany who are not friends of Time Warner and may well be very interested in looking into this.

I would also encourage parents to speak with their young adult children so they realize that Greece local government essentially just stole their civil rights. Sure, they can bring a tape down to Time Warner Offices. They can wait in line while people pay bills, get equipment etc. But Time Warner has no studio by which they can enter and get on TV.

Lastly do realize, the local Democratic Party has a full slate of candidates in Greece this year.

I have listened to what these people have to say. They are not politicians, they are citizens of our community who have enough of the Greece aristocracy. This extension of Monroe County politics where our current officials hold day jobs. They intend on bringing back choices to the Greece Community, accountability, open shared responsibility and putting Greece back where it belongs, the largest and leading community in the county.

Whether your a republican, a democrat, undecided or non-voter you need to listen to these people.

They intentionally sought out candidates that are truly representitive of the citizens of the Greece community.

Visit them, listen to them and make your choice in November. People of Greece can be represented by those that quite clearly could care less about this community but instead self-interests or make a change where the local Greece government is operated by who are sick and tired of decisions made allegedly in the communities best interests that clearly are not, nor are the residents given the opportunity to open public forum and vote to make such decisions.

The town government states this is a financial decision yet spends $4,000+ per day hiring retired investigators to research the Police Dept. issues. When in fact NY State can happily provide such investigators to the community that we already pay for in State Taxes. Yet, $50,000 for EduCable is an issue for them.

These shifty methods of Greece Elected Officials need to cease and apparently the only way this will happen is if they are removed from office.

It does not matter what political ideology one wishes to believe in. These people have no interest in such things as what the citizens wish or how citizens want their community run.

Does anyone remember the last time SCATS reported on anything of substance? I don't recall, but perhaps it's that damn swine flu. I am getting my rest tho not to worry. I'm watching NASA on Educable while talking with Officer Pignato and shredding the audit report all while complaining about Greece government. I will say that Julia does look hot in a nurse outfit.

To 7:06PM ~~ Despite your cynicism, YOU are here ... yet again. Most of what "SCATS reports" is what's already in the news in some form. Approximately 150 comments have been left in the past week, an admittedly "slow" week ;)

Jeesh John Auberger - can't you do ANYTHING right?

If it turns out it was an audit report that was shredded (previously not public knowledge) you can turn over the IP and the MAC Address and the FBI can pay the poster a little visit.

You know what else realy stinks about TW doing public access now? They'll let both parties have equal campaign airtime. It was nice how Brian only let the democrats run tv spots and not anyone else. I mean, everybody knows this never really was "public" access after Sal passed. God rest his soul. Can I say that here or will the Brighton ladies get mad? I'm gonna miss DPCTV when it goes away.

Hi:

Brian again

The republican have been welcome to come on the channel and anytime. I spoke to Bill Reilich about this at a Septmeber 11, 2008 event I taped. I told him Dave Garretson was on he should come on to and that all candidates were welcome. I had called his office previously to inform him of this policy. he asked me what the policy was and I explained it to him.

Bill made a joke about making him look good. I'd told him he would look great.

Again a perfect example of wanting to have your cake and eat it to. If some republicans don't come on they accuse the other side of bias. They don't want to give independent access legitimacy.

Our policy regarding free time is posted on the community bulletin board for all to see.

Brian Again

PS
As I was quoted in the D and C it look like some folks want access limited when the current scandals are hitting the fan

Mr. J Auberger and his political counter parts in the westside communities finally did away with public access TV.
Mr. Auberger's bullying needs to be intervened on.
Folks we are one more step in becoming a closed system of government town.
Another Sad day in Greece
