In Supt's Health Care
The D&C Reports: "Achramovitch will pay roughly $3,000 more for the cost of his health care plan this year." ~~ according to VanOrman
MPNNews Reports: "Achramovitch agreed to a 10 percent reduction in the cost of his health care benefits, a savings to the district of about $2,095." ~~ source not stated
SCATS: In my mind, $2095 isn't "roughly $3000" ... it's roughly $2000 ;)

Do Parents Expect Teachers To Support/Reinforce "Mannerly Behavior" At School & Correct It as Needed?
At What Age Does A Child Know Right from Wrong?
Is A 5 Yr. Old Expected To Already Know Manners And Right From Wrong By Kindergarten Teachers?
... My daughter who is a teacher got "smacked" by a 5 year old on the first day of school. I am so sick of parents that don't do their jobs raising their kids and teaching them manners, etc. It is not the job of the teacher, it's the job of the parent. 9/06/2008 8:22 PM
That's an interesting position to take, 8:22. When I went to school, teachers did teach manners. When my son went to pre-school (private, not through the school district), they taught manners too. Of course, we taught manners at home, as well.
I don't know if he was taught manners in any Greece school since the subject never came up except on conference day when I was told how well behaved and polite he was.
According to you though, somehow teaching manners is above a Greece teacher? So much for Hillary's notion that "It takes a whole village to raise a child." Maybe you should write to her and burst that bubble yourself.
By the way, a 5 year old is young enough to still be learning (thus the need for attending school maybe?), so why assume the child intentionally "smacked" your daughter? Then again, from the tone of what you wrote, maybe your daughter needed to be "smacked" so she'd wake up and begin teaching manners. Just a thought. 9/06/2008 8:47 PM
Boy or boy, 9/6/08 - 8:45 what alot of nerve you have to even suggest that a teacher should be smacked! Do you even know what teachers have to teacher in kdg? Manners is sure as hell not on the "state mandated list of things to teach". I think maybe that is the parents job!!!!!!!! When a kid goes into school they should know right from wrong and have manners - if the parent has done their job. To "Scats" I'm not sure of the circumstances but she took the child to a private area and talked to him/her and told the child that was unacceptable behavior but she would give him a day to think about it and he was not punished at that time, just talked too. Of course that took time away from the other students that were behaving. The mother never answered or returned her calls or answered her note sent home - she apparently doesn't give a ****! 9/07/2008 7:37 PM
OMG 7:37!!!!!! That is one of the most outrageous things I ever read on this blog!! A 5 year old child does NOT know right from wrong, nor have they developed the necessary self-control to always do what is right!!!!! Ask a psychologist, preacher or school counselor! They are still learning and developing a conscience at that age for Chrissakes!!!
I don't give a rat's backside whether NY state mandates it or not! I don't care if it's in her contract or not either!!!
Anyone who is in a job where they must be in contact with or guide young children must be able to MODEL AND THEREBY TEACH good behavior, manners, morals, ethics, etc. Would you like to suggest that your daughter hasn't been trained to do the proper behaviors for her students or to tell them what the proper choice or better choice might be? If so, then YOU FAILED HER, along with ALL of her past teachers.
By the way 7:37, I didn't write the post that I assume you were referring to, but I agree that if your daughter believes a 5 yr old knows right from wrong, then maybe that smack will help wake her up to reality. No wonder parents count the days to graduation in Greece and call media when busses are late! Our kids are in the hands of wackos!! 9/08/2008 12:14 AM

Aug. 30 ~~ Four teens knocked a 10-year-old off his bicycle and demanded money in the 3600 block of Mt. Read Blvd
Superintendent Steve Achramovitch told us some delays are typical in the first few days as teachers work, especially at the elementary level, to get students on the right bus." ~~ News 10NBC
Amidst ever growing concerns and frustrations of Technology or the lack there of in Greece School District, Geoff Sanderson Acting Executive Director of Technology and the Office of Strategic Planning and Program Evaluation has been advised by the Superintendent to relinquish his position as the Acting Executive Director of Technology. It appears that there have been major problems with lost documents, inability for staff to access parent contact information, putting your children at risk, and the lack of urgency to fix the problems before the start of school. It appears that it may take months to resolve all the current issues.
Taxpayers beware as this Administration is out of control! Demand answers to questions raised by the NYS Audit and hold those people accountable for all the damage that has been done to the District! I urge you to show up to the next board meeting and demand real answers! I would focus your attention to the approved in Xerox Contract 2007 which has yet to implemented as was presented to the School Board and Public. The lack of electronic door access that was installed in all school building as part of the CIP project and to this date doesn’t function at all. These items are just a few that have been brought forward to the current Superintendent’s attention and no follow up or action has occurred. Remember it is your tax dollars that are not being used directly for educating the students of Greece or their safety; especially when all the items being purchased are not installed or are functioning properly. Please bring this administration back to realty and let’s show them the door while we expose all the cover-ups! “Just another dysfunctional day in Greece CSD” 9/04/2008 4:35 PM
There are Xerox reps at DO that respond when the machines break down. The electronic door acess works there also. So i am not really sure what you are referring to. As far as teh technology being a mess, this is true. An upgrade did not go as planned however it is not entirely to blame on Greece, I believe a high tech computer company was hired to plan this whole update as well as rollout. Seems that they dropped the ball somewhere and now everyone is trying to clean it up. And you are right it will take several weeks to get everyone up and running again. Hopefully this new Director knows what he is doing. 9/04/2008 10:40 PM
So you are telling us that there is only one door in one building in the whole District out of 20 plus buildings, that is operational and utilizing the electronic door access system? What about the rest of the 19 buildings with over 80 plus doors that have nonfunctional card readers, when are they coming online? Seems to me that this topic of safety and security has been swept under the rug for some time.
Greece taxpayers are well aware that CIP was completed fully and under budget. It does appear that the NYS Audit proves this statement is incorrect. As I recall awhile ago, a student of the District created a video of all the issues of CIP project. I wonder if that video is still accessible.
As for the Xerox Reps, that was only part of the deliverable of the Xerox contract. If you look closely at the contract (which can be FOILed) that was presented to the BOE you may find items contained in it that haven't been installed or configured to help reduce cost as promised. Once again your taxpayer dollars have been spent on unusable equipment that hasn't seen the light of day for sometime now.
Makes you wonder why this information hasn't been shared directly with the School Board or the public until now.
10:40, By the way, someone had to sign off on the technology upgrade.Remember stop pointing the finger at others and instead start holding the Greece School Administration accountable for this and all the other cover ups and inabilities to get the job done effectively!
Just another dysfunctional day in Greece School District! 9/05/2008 12:52 AM
School "Security" systems, door locks, CCTV- The BIG joke.
Ask who the Prime Contractor was on the Security portion of the CIP.
Did GCSD do an end run around the bidding process as other districts did to avoid the Single Manufacturer/Single Vendor requirement?
Did Crista include drawings in the CIP package for security & CCTV and then claim neither was part of the job package at GCSD like they did in other districts?Did the same designer lay out GCSD who was terminated by Johnson due to his nonfunctioning systems in other locations?
Can the Security Console operator unlock outside doors from the console?
Is the console operator alerted when an outside door is opened?
How long do the video recorders at GCSD retain video before rolling over it to record new events?
All questions the taxpaying public has a right to know the answers to.

DID ROBACH REFUSE INVITATION TO DEBATE ON THIS TOPIC??
On the education news front -Senator Joe Robach has refused an invitation to debate his opponent, Rick Dollinger, on the subject of education.
The forum was to be held at Our Lady of Mercy hall on Denise Road at 6:30 p.m. tonight. However, the partisan group (Northgate Citizens, etc.) that runs that location, kicked Dollinger out because their favorite son refused to attend the forum.
The new location is Greece Canal Park, Millenium Lodge, off Elmgrove Road near Straub Road, at 6:30 p.m. Too bad Joe refuses to talk to us about the state of education in Greece as well as statewide. It makes one wonder why Joe would develop a bunker mentality on this most important issue. 9/02/2008 11:36 AM
