Zero Tolerance Runs Amok? ~~ Alleged Sex Assault Victim Suspended

Churchville-Chili Freshman
May Face Longer Suspension
Following Initial Five Days

Supt.'s Letter Claims She "engaged in sexual misconduct while on the grounds of the senior high school."

Atty. Bill Savage ~~ "The district's position may have a chilling effect on other students who may become the victim of sexual assault. The original suspension is wholly unwarranted to begin with for a victim of a sexual crime, let alone further suspension. We want her back in class and Churchville-Chili because the district's decision-making so far has been unconscionable."

About That Budget "Surplus" ...

After adopting an AUSTERITY budget of $187.7M last June for the current 2007-08 school year, the Board of Education now projects an unprecedented SURPLUS for this year. Just how big – read on!

According to figures at the BOE meeting Jan 8th, the net SURPLUS for this year is projected to be $6.9M. Combing this projected SURPLUS of $6.9M... with $3.6M already in hand as withheld from the SURPLUS last year, the total available SURPLUS could be $10.5M at yearend.

District residents may want to comment.

Q#1: How should the SURPLUS be used?

Q#2: What number should the Board use as a base budget to start building a proposed budget for next year?
