Dear Mr. Yeara ...

notamiller said...
Does Yeara have a clue about how totally unprofessional he sounds?
He does a huge disservice to teachers everytime he spouts his opinions. The man sounds enraged, plays victim, whines on about things other Greece parents suffer through in silence, can't spell and is too lazy to use spell-checker.

Recent examples- "To bad wisom doesn't happen with age!""Totally disfunctional."

My very favorite Yeara quote of all time is, "I live here too and pay taxes as well .....and when I ran out of some supplies or the school couldn't afford to send my son on a field trip, that money came from my pay check!"

He's FINALLY joined the real world that Greece parents know all too well. Too bad he still doesn't have a clue.

Dear Mr. Yeara,
I am writing in regard to your Ann Miller reply on I am doing so here because I don't trust that my identity can be obscured by Jeff Cagwin, webmaster of that site. I will answer your items, based on two decades of experience and employment in the public school sector and as a parent of children who both thrive (are NOT left behind) and do NOT thrive (ARE left behind) in it.

I know what the No Child Left Behind act is, what it was designed to accomplish and what it actually accomplishes. It was designed to focus people on what is important and to provide LOCALITIES with the ability to establish LOCALITY-specialized strategies to focus on student success.

This is not unlike any of the laws (local, regional or national) that exist on the books. We have them because enough people stopped being sensible and rational to the degree that the greater society was being harmed. Enter: NCLB. Is it perfect? No less than any law. Is it needed? Of course it is.

The fact that you are asking the questions that you did on, reveals that your leaders have failed (after some SIX years of NCLB) to provide you with strategies and methodologies to address them effectively. Shame on them. You know who they are. They are the ones that are both no longer in Greece and those that were hired by them, studied under them and were promoted and given pay raises.

Shame on you for blaming parents for wanting you to be held accountable for doing a job that United States law mandates that you do, yet local instructional leadership gives you a “pass” on.

SIX NCLB years have passed. A sizable percentage of TWELVE year olds at THAT time are NOT graduating today. The “Ed.D.'s” in Greece employment want to pay for “studies” (in addition to having you pay for their “Ed.D.'s”). I say, “No.” It is time to hire people who know how to formulate a plan to reach the goal (executive leadership), people who can communicate and coach staff to reach that goal (middle leadership), assess staff effectiveness in reaching that goal and weed out those at all levels that cannot.

The insanity ends NOW. Educators, if you haven't already, make the 2007/08 school year your resolve to leave NO child behind. China (who already envisions itself as the next world power by the way), India, Serbia/Coatia and Indonesia believe that nothing will change.

Dear 7/28/2007 9:13am

Thank You!! Your posting is well written and is "right on" It is hard for me but I have stayed out, for once, of the discussion with John regarding NCLB. NCLB requires nothing more than what a good school district should already have in place to focus instruction, indentify students, make instructional improvements and report results to the community. John's continued comments of blaming is shallow and not helpful.

I wish I could be as hopeful as you are for 2007-2008. I had to FOIL the district this summer because I could not find any 2006-2007 Greece School Board Goals or any 2006-2007 Greece Central School District Goals. The request came back "The District does not posses or maintain the record you have requested". How in the world can the school board or school district operated without any goals. I guess without any goals you don't have to worry about not meeting your goals...

A Reader Asks For Help ...

I posted the original question about the minutes for a purpose. I am interested in monitoring the certified coaches that are hired specific to soccer at Athena HS and MS ... I really am looking for help in seeing this info BEFORE particular individuals have the opportunity to work with our children. Why? I have documented information to the moral/ethical character and legal issues with one coach/ volunteer in particular. I also have information that this individual was referred to on this site during a fall sport as a Parent Score Keeper. If the Budget did not pass, I am having a hard time "paying" individuals like this my tax payer dollars to teach our children. From what I am reading it is sounding like I am going to have to get myself to district office to view the minutes but may not get copies of them until after this individual is already getting paid and working with our students?

Someone please help? 7/23/2007 7:38 AM

Email Questions Legacy Park Fundraiser For Greece Central

From Our Email ...

"Dear Scats,

Do you know if there's a way to find out why the Legacy senior center on Mt. Read is hosting a fundraiser for Greece Central? I've scanned and attached a copy of a mailing that came today, July 16th.

I'm simply outraged by this! Not only are they raising money for the school district at their Greece location, but they appear to be paying for the mailing out of the ridiculous rents they charge to senior citizens! Isn't this unethical? Is it legal? Are other similar fundraisers being conducted across town? Do they do this at their other non-Greece locations too? Any way to find out how many first class notices went out and the cost?

It seems to me that an $8 chicken dinner that nets $5 for GCSD is not only over-priced, but a slap in the face to any sucker who buys one, especially if that happens to be one of our esteemed seniors. Didn't they pay enough when they lived in their homes for all those years? I'm really seeing red. Please please find some answers. Thanks."

BLOG Administration notes that the mailer advertises a "Chicken BBQ Benefit" at "Legacy Park Crescent" located at 1000 Providence Circle (off Mt. Read Blvd.) from 2-5PM on Friday July 27th. For $8, you'll receive a half chicken, macaroni salad, salt potatoes and entertainment. The mailer states that " $5 of each meal sold will be donated to support Greece Central Student Asset Development Program."

Anyone have any answers?

Board of Education Information Will Soon Be Electronic
"As of July 1, the Greece Central School District Board of Education will begin using a paperless system called BoardDocs. From then on, all board meeting agendas and minutes will be electronic and available by clicking on the BoardDocs link on this Web site. The system is used by local governments and school boards around the country and was adopted in Greece to eliminate the cost of assembling and copying p aper documents. "

BOE Decision Questioned In Light
Of District's Educational Needs

"Sorry comunity, but the highest priority of the Greece school board now is to build a fitness center for employees. The educational value will be beyond measure!" 7/07/2007 7:51 AM

"There is an intermunicipal agreement between the town and the school district. This is longstanding and sometimes forgotten.
That means that the elite fitness center can be used by the school employees as well as their brethren that work for the town.
Nice deal,huh?"

"Do we know for certain that there are plans to build a fitness center?! Or rather, is it rumor-mongers who are misinterpreting a Board resolution to honor a former Greece student, Scott Spino, by renaming and existing school fitness center? Does anyone have FACTS?" 7/07/2007 9:39 AM

Anonymous said...
"9:39 - the FACTS were discussed at the previous BOE meeting. They are building a new one at Barnard. There was some grant money used to start the project and now they voted to pay to finish it or they would potentially have to repay the grant money.

If the district clerk weren't so far behind on her duties to post minutes, I'd ditrect you to them, but it might be weeks before she gets around to that."

"Let's start a new column and discuss that fitness center they are going to build. The public rejects the budget so the board passes a budget based on the maximuim the state will allow. That is then followed with money for a fitness center. Is there no end to their insanity?" 6/29/2007 8:57 AM

Good question.
The answer is that most have come to realize that volunteering or becoming involved or even voting never changes what THEY will do.
THEY will always do as they have done. They will always get what they want. The superintendents are in it for themselves as are the unions.
The law protects their jobs and their built in raises.
We can't get rid of any of them without giving them lots of official notice.
The elected officials always become one of THEM as they revel in their newfound importance. If we vote no they still do as they want and we can't do anything about it.
They have meetings behind closed doors and they know we can't do anything about it except complain. But their is no punishment for their actions.
Oh them out every 3 years to have them replaced by other clones.
No one who has a real life would want to be a board member so let them do it.
What will be will be and let the rest of us have picnics.
Let them vote for the leader of their treehouse club and realize that it does not really matter."
